Concert Summary

While they have always referred to themselves as "just a little ole' band from Texas," ZZ Top has become one of the most loved and enduring rock 'n' roll institutions ever to strike an E major power chord and follow it up with a screeching blues lick. This short but tasty set dates back to 1982, when the band had reinvented itself with a new look: nudie cowboy outfits and three-foot long beards. The band was also embracing a somewhat new sound, as suggested on El Loco, the album they had released the year prior.

The blues-rock trio still delivered their trademark blues guitar…entire summary

i saw the zz top on this tour...damn good memories!!! this band never disappoints!! just picked up "double down live" dvd yesterday, and even though the '80's concert wasn't filmed that good it was great, and the second disc was pretty cool too!! this has always been one of my favorite bands, and considering i've seen damn near everyone you could possibly ever want to see, the top are number one for me!! i've never missed a show in detroit...beer drinkers and hell raisers forever!! keep rockin' guys, and thanks for all the music and memories...

I've been a ZZ fan for 32 years - since Tres Hombres. Billy's phrasing is unmatched. Period. Frank is fantastic and Dusty too. I have seen some interviews with Billy on YouTube and he struck me as an intelligent, engaging, fun person. Billy's playing has slowed a helluva lot the last few years and I wonder if he has arthritis or something. I hope not. New look idea... no hats. Bald. Beards. No shirts. Red suspenders. Black pants. Just skinny old Billy/fatter Dusty. I think that'd be awesome.

Billy Gibbons is one of the most unsung guitar heroes in rock. Jimi Hendrix was impressed but apparently that's not good enough for Rolling Stone who never puts Billy on their "top 100" guitarist lists. I guess you need to have a massive ego and take yourself very seriously to be in the running.

I also saw them in 1975, I think, in Charleston, WV with Peter Frampton as the headliner, this was during the Frampton Comes Alive era and was right during the Tres Hombres release....ZZTOP opened and played a BLISTERING 45 minute set....it was an hour before Frampton would even come out on stage...ZZTOP was just too much for him to follow..

I saw them last year at the Backyard in Austin, TX.....Billy's voice is rougher from years of singing, which gives the band more of a bluesy feel....they had some sound problems during their set...but, after 40 years or so...they can still ROCK with the best of 'em and there's NO trio that does it better!...Long live the Little 'Ole Band from TEXAS!
