Concert Summary

Weird Al Yankovic began his career in the late-1970s as a novelty act playing the nerdy fool who thinks accordions and polkas are cool. He appeared briefly in 1977 on the Tom Snyder Show on NBC, who laughingly ushered him off the show with the phrase, "Great performance, Al. Don't quit your day job."

While most other novelty acts would have come and gone with one flavor-of-the-minute song parody on the radio, not Yankovic. He had the phenomenon of MTV waiting for his career. By combining goofy song parodies with…entire summary

I love listening to this and imaging I'm the little kid I was then getting to see "Weird Al'. In reality I didn't get to see him until I was an adult. His "Bad Hair Day" tour and then his "Running with Scissors" tour. Couldn't afford to go to the last two. However I must concur with DJ Kuul A, Al needs to be seen in-person to be fully appreciated. With the costumes and videos it's like a Broadway show! And all these years later "Weird Al" still rules RE: "White and Nerdy" which was even a bigger hit then "Eat It"! -J.M.Yoda

The missus and I were at this show. Ate dinner a couple tables over from Al, who was trying to be very incognito. The dining room was nearly empty; it was early. Miss the old Tralf.

Great to see some Weird Al shows on the Vault, but it's true that you have to see him in person to truly appreciate his showmanship. He's the hardest working man in Polka business!
