Concert Summary

Opening with "Ballerina," Morrison plays a wide platter of material that encompassed his entire career, which at that point had been known to the musical public for over a decade. "Streets Of Arklow" leads into a soulful read of Bob Dylan's "Just Like A Woman." "Try For Sleep," which is more of a Morrison obscurity, is used as a warm-up for "Into The Mystic," one of his best known and most beloved songs.

Things really heat up after that. "I Just Want To Make Love To You," the Willie Dixon blues classic, is lava-hot,…entire summary

I saw Van somewhere around 85-88 when he had a three piece string and a four piece horn section and it was probably the best concert that I have ever been to. If not the best then in the top ten for sure, and believe me, I've been to hundreds of concerts, some good, some horrible, but this particular show by Van was amazing. He was spot on that night and he played just about every song that I had hoped. I saw him again in 95ish in Boston but like noted in here, he wasn't as precise as he could have been. But man oh man, that show in the mid 80's was nothing short of perfection!!!

Van has his issues, those r his, i have mine, u have urs..so be it. He is one of the best period. Chased the Van show that would get me to where so many years of listening has told me is capable, and I got it at the greek in May of 09 chasing the dream some more and seeing him a vegas.

Indeed I do, it's a possibility worth considering once in a while.

Van the Man has never done anything for me, I have to admit straight up, nothing against him, I recognise his greatness because people I respect swear by it, and I hear his influence in singers I do like (Graham Parker is the one who comes to mind right now), I just miss something in the translation or something, it's a character flaw etc, blah blah blah. Anyway, I logged onto this show to see if my deficiency could be overcome and... friends and neighbours, am I the only one who can hear, at the start of Moondance, that he's frantically trying to land on the note that will see him safely into the song's melodic happy place, HE CAN'T FIND IT EVER and he’s compensating by emoting incontinently all over the place as if that might help. Maybe someone in the band is playing bum notes in crucial places, but something here sounds absolutely awful, to my ears anyway. Is it Van? Am I just a bad person here, morally and aesthetically challenged, or am I onto something?

I've seen Van many times and heard a hundred boots and every show is different, no matter what. The guy could never phone it in. This one is kinda warm and shaggy with some great moments. Really nice funky Caravan with Van's voice fully warm and in full roar...he could always open those pipes and let it all out. Check out his three stooges tribal scat at 2:49; the dude was funny! He intros the band at 5:00, for those wondering who was present. Not his best band but good enough to make this show a treat. I sure hope there's a lot more Van in the Vault; his shows have character, all of 'em. One of the finest singers in modern music and a true survivor: he's still bringin' it after almost fifty years!

I as well love Van.. he does have a way of making you connect on a spiritual level.. his music had brought me through some hard times but always gave me hope and made me feel better after listen' to him.. I've never seen him live (a tragedy) I know but I'm only 43 right now and I bet I have 1000 of his concerts and boots.. great performer- a little shy and doesn't tolerate any bull but wonderful.. He's my favorite !

I've always been a more casual fan of Van Morrison, definitely respected him and dug his work but this concert has brought Van into a new light for me. This is an absolutely masterful performance.
