Concert Summary

One of the most enigmatic songwriters of our time, Van Morrison first gained recognition as the lead singer of the Northern Irish band Them, writing their seminal 1964 hit "Gloria." When Morrison began pursuing his own career in the late 1960s, he began a long journey down one of the most idiosyncratic musical paths in history, becoming one of the most distinctive and influential vocalists in all of modern music. His synthesis of folk, blues, jazz, and Celtic influences is unique. Although stylistically diverse, Morrison's greatest songs fall into two loosely defined categories. His popular…entire summary

Greg, I'm pretty sure that's the highest bitrate that WV offers.

Note to all: If you haven't listened to this show, it is a MUST! I have heard many great shows from the Vault, but this one stands out as the best so far. Van Morrison is a master of tension and release. I think that's why some people describe his shows as spiritual experiences. It's defnitely very powerful to listen to. Thanks Van! And thanks to the Vault for offering this show!

Caledonia Soul at it's best! 'Into the Music' material is all good. Take us 'down to the pylons'. 'Previous, way, way back'!

Have to say, VM's studio albums are altogether more memorable for sensitivity to sound and lyrics - they are the go-to recordings for his achievement. I've never heard him do a concert without forcing a sort of "party mood" that overrides everything else. I'm sure he'd be an enjoyable concert, but not up to his music.
