Concert Summary

Van Morrison was enjoying a commercial renaissance with both this tour and the album he was promoting at the time. Always a magnetic live performer, Morrison delivered a stunning set in New York's intimate Bottom Line club - the venue that launched the careers of both Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel, among countless others. Van once had a huge bootleg tree on the net- thousands of recordings for trade. The it all got yanked because someone started selling copies. Sad, as that tree was a concise history of on of rock's seminal and most creative composers. Sad that so many recordings from the Inarticulate Speech of the Heart era are yearned for. We all love Van: a big ol shout out, Brother Van.

Better git your Van fix before it goes out of print. Van is careful about his legacy, and some old great recordings with lesser quality may one day just go poof. Out of print.

Van is the Man,very limited live performer. What a shame he did share his performances with more people.I heard he has or had stage fright?

I saw a show on this tour at Univ Cal Irvine and to this day, I have never seen a performer where music just oozed out of their pores like it was under a million pounds of pressure...truly unforgettable!

Saw Van the very next night (11/02), second show at The Palladium in NYC. He dumped the mic over and did an exit stage-right halfway thru "Natalia". Amazingly, Bobby Tench (lead guitarist) picked up the lead vocals and the band finished the song. They then did an instrumental "Help Me" (which is basically 'Green Onions' w/o vocals), waiting for Van to reappear, which he never did. The band rushed the ending of "Help Me', scurried off the stage under the cover of darkness and the security goons assumed their positions on the foot of the stage. I was bullshit, after having hitched down from NH for the sole purpose of catching that show (after two at Boston's Orpheum on 10/16). It was one gloomy long train ride back to South Station, I'll tell ya. I eventually forgave him, tho, and was in attendance at his Boston/Wang Centre show on 05/17/85. But, this little Palladium crash & burn effectively marked the end of the American segment of the Wavelength Tour for Van. Incredibly, Rockpile, his opening act, continued on to DC & Chicago without him. Save for a contractual obligation with SNL on 11/04, Van didn't reappear until 11/26 at The Roxy in LA (another decent boot, but not up to this one, imho). Appears two shows per night, night after night, in the wake of a 4-year layoff proved too much, too soon. Too bad, because Van soon after wrestled his demons, and hung up his rock n' roll shoes. Last of the wild nights. This is the first of two shows that night, and is hands-down my favorite bootleg of all-time. It really should have been (should be) released commercially. Too many fat cats worrying about the motion on the ocean, I spoz.
