Concert Summary

If you listen to this show back-to-back with Van Morrison's 1978 Bottom Line show, you will have as close to a greatest hits live performance recording as one can expect from the acclaimed Irish singer/songwriter. Recorded in the fall of 1979, when Morrison was approaching the tail end of his most creatively fertile time as a musician, this show exudes the pure joy found in so much of his music.

Opening with "Kingdom Hall," and moving through a set that includes "Bright Side Of The Road," "You Make Me Feel So Free," "Warm…entire summary

The guitar work on Brown Eyed Girl sounds very much like Duane Allman's slide work on the Grateful Dead's Sugar Magnolia from 28 April 1971, Fillmore East concert (set 2). Check it out. Also, I've heard over the years that Van also suffers from tremendous stage fright. Wish all these Van shows were available for download.

I can't believe I never knew about this show! I saw the Grateful Dead (accoustic), billed as Phil & Friends for the first time, play a benefit concert supporting public school music programs there in '95 and my favorite Jimi Hendrix live album is also @ Berkley Community Theater--which is all I could think about at that show. But I had NO idea Van played there! What a cool venue and what a fantastic high-energy performance by Van and all the other musicians. What a voice Katie Kissoon has!

Was this the bread and Roses concert? If so, I was there...was the first time I saw Van. I was touched and never forgot how wonderful he was under the warm sun.

Had the privilege of seeing Van Morrison in both Oxford and Bristol United Kingdom in 2008. The guy represents Belfast, Northern Ireland. Hard, straight and true. Those people take their religion serious.

I never fully knew what it meant to be spiritual until I first heard Van albums in 1996. His music taught me more about that stuff than 12 years of Catholic school ever did.

Never thought I'd get to see "The Man" in my lifetime but he finally came back to Detroit after 20 years in 2006, then again in 2008. I had front row for the 08 show and he was on his game. 2006 was too "wangy twagy" country and it seemed like he was going trough the motions. He touring for the Pay the Devil country album. His shows are very expensive. $300 and up for the good seats. And to this day, he still only plays for 90 minutes on each show.

He's always been known for never wanting to do the same style of a song twice live. I was amazed at the light country and jazz type of flavor here for "Here Comes the Night".

I've always said if angels do exsist they have to look and sound like Katie Kisson. I was lucky enough to see her with Van on that 08 show. She even did the co-vocal with him on his cover of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb". (Also got to hear her sing Mother on Roger Waters' 2006 tour)
