Concert Summary

Originally a local FM broadcast, the tapes were then mixed by Todd Rundgren before the show was heard nationally on the King Biscuit Flower Hour. Good thing it was, too. Utopia was still in peak form on the concert stage and also because most of Utopia's audience didn't have the chance to experience these concerts in person. The American-only tour never ventured west of Illinois or south of Virginia.

Why? A good indication may lie in the general lack of support Utopia had faced since Todd Rundgren first formed the band in 1973. The devoted fans still came to the shows, but for the…entire summary

Great show and some obscure Utopia tunes. POV was my favorite record when it came out and I would always listen to it on my way home from work.

I have great memories of this show; I never missed a Todd or Utopia show if it was at all possible, and I was standing front and center for this show. I had a friend record it for me off the radio and I wore out the tape. I'm lucky to have been alerted to this site by a friend, then to find this show in the list! Catch Todd live when you can; he's as great now in concert as he's ever been and his band is smokin'!

Great concert! Great sound and great musicianship all around. Trapped is a standout here as is Crybaby.

Rundgren,Powell,Sulton & Wilcox are one of the few bands I ever saw that outdid themselves time again...I don't recall them ever having a bad night & I saw them for every tour over a 10 year period from 1974 to 1984. Four guys all great musicians with great tunes to play...what more could you want ?

Incredible audio on this one. I loved Oblivion and if given a chance it will truly grow on you. POV was even better IMO. I saw that tour with Tubes headlining. These guys need a full US reunion tour before it's too late - how about after Arena, Todd? Great song selection here although I never see a playlist with Maybe I Could Change or I Will Wait, my 2 favorites that Kasim sang from that period. Still, If I Didn't Try is so great with that great disturbing guitar motif and Willie's motorcycle drum kit triggering all sorts of stuff. When I first heard these tunes I had thought they couldn't pull them off live, but here they are. Great power pop!
