Concert Summary

Walking through a door first was opened by Blood Sweat and Tears and Chicago in the late 1960s, Tower of Power emerged in the early '70s as the west coast answer to the horn-driven rock movement. But whereas those other, aforementioned groups paid a heavy debt to the styles and modulations of big-band and jazz, TOP based their music around the soul/funk sounds of James Brown, Motown and Stax.

    Francis Prestia and David Garibaldi. One of the great rhythm sections. The syncopation is incredible. Live music it is for me.

    i've waited nearly 20 yrs to hear some improve TOP from the rick stevens era after hearing their 1970 debut Lp eastbay grease. that sound is so chillingly cool. check it out for ya'all selves!!!!! nothin like the soulful sounds of this bitchin' group that made the eastbay sound what it is today!!!!!
