Concert Summary

It's hard to imagine what musical heights Tommy Bolin would have reached had he not died tragically of a heroin overdose in December 1976, while touring as the opening act for Jeff Beck. Although he was only on the scene for five years, he had a prolific recording and touring career. Had he not died so young and so suddenly, there are many industry professionals who feel he could have been the next huge guitar hero.

He emerged out of the Denver area in the late 1960s in a blues-rock band called Zephyr, whose raspy…entire summary

Damn that devil heroin!!!! It's taken so much from so many, and still is stealing every minute of every day!! Tommy Bolin is,yes I said "is",one of the greatest! They don't come around like him too often, and most of the time they're only here for a short while.Maybe he gave us all he had,but I don't think so! Just think where music would be today if we still had Tommy Bolin,Hendrix,Duane Allman,Garcia,Janis,Jim Morrison,SRV,Barry Oakley,Gram Parsons,Keith Moon,John Bonham,Stevie Gaines,Allen Collins, and Toy Caldwell!I could stand to watch the Grammys, but I'll be damned if heaven doesn't have one hell of a house band!!!

Was turned on to Tommy through DP's "Come Taste The Band" album.Loved the funk that Tommy brought to the table.Discovered James Gang "Bang" and on and on.Have been a hugh fan ever since!Recommened listening,Tommy Bolin & Friends "Live At Ebbet Field" June 3 & 4,1974 also "from the archives" and Tommy Bolin "The Ultimate..." which includes a couple of uncredited tracks from Canadian band Moxy. Again begs the question, what if....

I was at the Winterland show (it was Heart and TB opening for Elvin Bishop)... All my friends confused Tommy Bolin with Marc Bolin, and wouldn't even give him a listen, but they were finally getting enlightened when we caught that show!!!! TB was great, but you could see the end coming... I've never seen any one that wasted, play so amazingly!! A truly great loss.... Turn the youngsters on to this one. Gotta keep this music alive.........

As far as I can remember now, Denver lore holds that Zephyr, showcasing Tommy of course, opened for a very popular arena-rock band of the day at Red Rocks and apparently raised the bar so high with their set that the main attraction (I wish I could remember who it was) couldn't, and apparently didn't, impress anyone.

There is one album you didn't mention that he appears on. That is Alphonse Mouzon's "Mind Transplant" album from 1975. Tommy shares guitar duties with Lee Ritenour and Jay Graydon.A very hard album to find but worth it for his solos on 3 of the songs. Alphonse Mouzon was a fusion drummer who had played with Larry Coryell's Eleventh House.
