I started listening to the Who as a kid--my siblings albums spinning constantly around, mesmerized by the sheer sonic power and testosterone that came out of the speakers.....but to finally see them on video at the peak of their powers like this is.....well, f*in brilliant.   • Anonymous Monday, January 02, 2012 1:41 pm Folks...I was there. I was 13 at the time and already a Who fan. The lineup was Its a Beautiful Day (think White bird), Jethro Tull and The Who. Powerful, amazing concert in one of the most acoustically perfect and beautiful venues on the planet (Boston Pops summer stage). We could feel the music and the power that drove it. Long live rock!
  • Benabz Monday, January 02, 2012 3:36 am There is no question that for me, the best form of art, entertainment, music - whatever - is The Who in 1970. Tanglewood, Hull, IOW and of course Leeds is enough evidence. I turn 40 next month and have adored them since I first heard the glorious sound aged 12. There is nothing better than this and The Who will live forever.

  • Anonymous Saturday, September 24, 2011 6:11 am I saw them a month before at the Metropolitan Opera House. It was the first rock concert ever produced there and it was astonishing. First a bunch of photographers came out and took pictures of the Hippie audience. Then Pete and the boys warmed up by playing The Live at Leeds set...and THEN they played Tommy. I remember getting tickets via a lottery that was held down at the Fillmore. By concert's end I was stone cold deaf: I mean I could not hear a thing. Can totally understand what happened to Pete's hearing. I saw tons of concerts in the day ---hey they used to be $6.00 a ticket and up. Wings...CSNY...Simon and Garfunkel at Carnegie Hall and on and on---but no one had the sheer velocity and testosterone of The Who. This was music for the album generation aided and fueled by massive amounts of recreational drugs. It was all a blissful retreat from the War. The seventies went on to become a violent, confusing, assassination driven time underscored by way too much drugs and debauchery. It was too much of a good thing. But at least we still had our music. Still to come was James Taylor and other soothing acts to counterbalance the turbulence. This concert that you are watching represents the end of an era----just one summer past Woodstock and a summer too close to Altamont. We were stardust....we were golden.

Note"Unless your playback system is 5,000 watts, and you have very large speakers,you cannot imagine how loud they were in that period, and how visceral, how exciting. Keith Moon burned brightly and strong, though burn up he did..

  • robbo4 Thursday, August 18, 2011 10:12 am The best player for player outfit in the history of rock music! This is The Who at it's strongest and best. No one touched them in those days. The proof is well documented on both film and record. 'Live at Leeds' is on a par with The Stones 'Get Yer Ya Ya's Out' for me, and I've always listed 'Ya Ya's' as my favorite live album. The Beatles, Stones, The Who, Zeppelin, Hendrix, The Kinks, Yardbirds, Small Faces, The Allman Brothers, The Dead, Deep Purple....those were indeed magical times that have and will never be surpassed. Thank you Wolfgang's Vault for providing proof time and again of this sad, but happy fact...
  • ALBEE Saturday, August 13, 2011 1:39 pm This is the real Who, in form at their peak,if you love the Who at this stage in their development you can get THE WHO Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970. it was shot at 2am on the 30th of August 1970. All the songs sung here are on the DVD. Put the DVD on nice and loud and you have got the WHO at their best, I promise you. Enjoy.

  • dhughes53 Saturday, July 23, 2011 9:07 am Glad to finally see more of this show in good quality, but where is the rest of it? The Who released the first three song's and Bill's intro on the 30 Years of Maximum R & B DVD, the rest is available in poor quality boots. I first saw the Who 5 days earlier at Freedom Palace in Kansas City and was blown away despite the PA problems and the intense heat in the room. Must have been 110' or more. This really brings me back to that show and would pay big $$$ for a DVD of the whole performace. Sort out the rights, pay the band it's due and let the fans see it before it's too late. Until then, thanks for streaming this here.

  • Billiam Thursday, July 21, 2011 9:36 am My two cents on Pete. He is not Jeff Beck, Hendrix, Van Halen, or Guy, but he gets more out of chords than anyone else I have seen. I put him in my top ten because of that and pioneering the energy on-stage that paved the way for punk and the like. Plus, he is an outstanding songwriter. This was one hell of a group folks.

I have this entire show on bootleg, so nice to see a crystal-clear (well, for 1970) version. I love how Pete compliments Tanglewood and Jethro Tull and says so casually how they were there just a year earlier with Jefferson Airplane. We should all give thanks to Joshua Light Show too for convincing Bill for allowing their Joshua Television division to videotape this and other Fillmore shows. What a show! Man, I was born too late! SOB!

Saw The Who at Anaheim Stadium on June 14, 1970 when they headlined a day show; traded my last roll of Tri-X for a backstage pass and spent the last hour stage left and 10 feet from Pete, taking pictures. Pretty amazing experience for a 16 year old kid. They played unbelievably that afternoon and were all at the height of their musical powers. A year and a half later, finally got a chance to meet them all; show them my photos; and then shoot three more shows from the stage. Thanks Pete for letting the San Diego promoter know, "He's shooting for me!" Greatest live band ever.

  • velaphi Wednesday, May 04, 2011 1:06 pm I was there, in about the 5th row. It's a Beautiful Day opened, followed by Jethro Tull and then The Who -- who had said they weren't going to do "Tommy." After doing the whole thing, Townshend announced that it was the best they'd sounded on the tour -- so would we mind if they kept playing? Which they did, for about another half hour. Moon that night gave what's probably still the single best instrumental performance I've seen.

Zak Starkey is the only drummer who comes within a mile of Moonie,which is not a surprise as Moonie taught Ringo's son the drums.

  • WillisT Sunday, May 01, 2011 10:41 am I still to this was so fortunate to see Moon & co. as the first ever Rock act at the new Pontiac Silverdome in 1976,one of the best show's I've ever seen,along with Zep in "73" at Cobo and Sabbath at Cobo promoting Master of Reality,opening act's were Gentle giant and I think Michle Quarto!
