Concert Summary

Evolving from Pete Townshend's idea for a musical autobiography of The Who, the second of the group's two full-scale rock operas, Quadrophenia, eventually developed into a social, musical and psychological exploration of the mid-1960s mod scene in England. Written from the perspective of a British teenager, Jimmy, the band member's role in the storyline became symbolic via Jimmy's four personalities. Like much of Townshend's work, Quadrophenia examined the universal…entire summary

Traditonally big halls like The Spectrum in Philly, tend to have piss ass poor sound...I've been to the Spectrum and can tell you first hand, it was a dynomite venue for it's size...This performance of Quadrophenia is the best i've heard of the tour....Eternal tunes, by an Eternal Band!

  • Secretary | Monday, November 21, 2011 | 7:08 pm

The only live recording of Quadrophenia with Keith Moon. Why Pete won't officially release this is a mystery and a shame.

  • CageyRocker | Thursday, November 17, 2011 | 7:32 am

Listen to the master, The Ox, as he plays lead bass virtually through the whole Quadrophenia segment...Outstanding!

    >historical shit!

My favorite post of all. And well put....phenomenal show--phenomenal band...When Pete was on...you had a great Who show. John was always on...and Keith was...well...Keith. But when Pete's leads were on and inspired--like this show--an unbeatable combination.

    Cheers!!

I saw them in Philly 15 years after this concert. Unfortunately, it was pure cheese. Waay too many people on stage. Like extra guitar players, keyboards, horns, backup singers. It was silly. It was the 80's though. Would have rather seen this show, but was only 1year old.
