Concert Summary

This recording captures much of the third night of a weeklong engagement of The Who performing their rock opera Tommy at the Fillmore East, with Bay Area band AUM opening, followed by fellow Brits King Crimson.

Following the band intro, they kick the show off with John Entwistle's "Heaven and Hell," their standard opener at the time. "I Can't Explain" and "Fortune Teller" hark back to older times, as does "Young Man Blues," but all three are played with a renewed…entire summary

The power. The majesty. The pure musical genius. The poetry. There is no musical group like the Who. Townsend, Daltry, Moon, Entwistle - the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Pete is my favorite musician of al time. His talent dwarfs his contemporaries - it is obvious. This concernt captures the Who at its best - raw and unafraid.

Pete has yelled at Bobby Pridden so much, I'm surprised he stuck through it all these years. Then again, what an incredible ride. Maybe Bobby should also write a Who biography?

This is a perfect example of Jeff Stein's (Longtime Queens Native Who Fan who made The Kids Are Alright movie happen) recall of a who concert he saw at the fillmore. Pure and Easy nirvana. Better than caviar. After a performance like this, what can any other band of that period, or now for that matter, do? Moon, Entswhistle, Daltry and Townsend took Rock and Roll and exhalted it an unobtainable level. The Gods of Muse will live on eternally.

I saw these guys first in 1970, and later in the 90s always a great show.

The Who are in my top 5 rock n roll bands ever. Will always remember seeing them in Oakland Coliseum "Day On The Green" with the Greatful Dead. Long live Keith and John, Pete and Roger. Long live rock!

i've always liked the Stones more than the Who, but the Who f'ing rock & Tommy is one of the greatest pieces of music ever written. check out the DVD of the Who "Live at Kilburn 1977". the bonus disc is from 1969 and contains tommy from "go to the mirror" to the end - incredibly powerful. Tommy on Live at Leeds and the 1969 Amsterdam radio broadcast are awesome.

Second rock concert I ever saw was the Who's Next tour in Denver, Dec. 1971. My ears have been ringing ever since. It was totally worth it!! The best rock and roll band in the world at that time, bar none.
