Concert Summary

The Who headlined the Fillmore East with Free Spirits and Buddy Guy opening.

The second night of The Who's first run ever playing at the Fillmore East is an unbelievably great document of the band in its early prime, still full of the punk attitude that they would initially define while beginning to venture off into more artistic and experimental territory. Awesome show! The Who doesn't get enough credit for their improv skills. Relax smokes!

Excellent recording and not too far astray from the heavier "Live At Leeds" and "Isle of Wight" performances less than 2 years later. Aside from Cream, Jimi Hendrix and Vanilla Fudge, what band had a rhythm section this good at that time? I am surprised they weren't playing more "Sell Out" material to promote that album. "Mary Anne", "I Can See For Miles" and "Our Love Was" would have been great additions to the set list.
