Concert Summary

At the end of the day, however, The Tubes' "in-your-face" theatrics were their greatest virtue and their biggest liability—when The Tubes became trapped by an unprofitable stage show they had developed, they went barebones and decided to focus only on the music. Unfortunately, no one was all that interested. The indifference caused the breakup of the band in the mid-1980s, and though they tried to re-group in 1987 without Waybill, it wasn't until a new deal…entire summary

Great show! The sound is just a little muffled (soundboard cassette master perhaps?), but this is such a good show I still give it 5 stars.

Great band! By the way, the Tubes hometown is Phoenix. Ask 'em.

From about 1974 onwards, almost every Winterland show was videotaped in lifelike black and white (with cameras the size of motorcycles). Sometimes they were broadcast on a screen behind the band (anticipating future Jumbotrons). Sometimes, during the endless waiting for the next band to start, videos of prior shows would be broadcast on the screen. A Tubes performance, almost certainly this one, was shown many times and made great theatre, even in not-color. If WV gets around to videos, this would be a great one to start with.
