Concert Summary

Dust off your imagination and buckle the fuck up—the Tubes are gonna pump the weirdness directly into your face whether you like it or not. With this cavalcade of characters, prepare for everything you've ever known to be obliterated, new wave-style.

If Frank Zappa directed community theatre, he may have come up with something as outrageous as the Tubes' thrift store satire. Ridiculous costumes, elaborate choreography, and a band capable of mastering and skewering any genre of popular music made this revue the premier live spectacle of the mid-to-late 1970s. I just bought the flac edition. I hear the tape dragging that Rocky21 mentions. It's mostly noticeable on the last few songs. The Kids Are Alright is the worst. It's intermittent & only lasts a few seconds, but it's pretty bad when it occurs. Regarding Aynsley Dunbar, I get the impression that he was sitting in. I love The Tubes. This show is ok, but not one of their best.

My second to the last time at the great Winterland . Went to Tom Petty & Greg Kihn , two nights later . I took some pictures this night , and I have one of Dick Bright getting a pie in the face from Re Styles , I think . I've seen The Tubes about 50 times , but this night had two drum kits on stage with two of the greatest drummers ever behind them , Prairie Prince and Aynsley Dunbar . Incredible ! Let There Be Drums ! Also got pictures of these two greats . You need to make The Ramones set available , also . Pleeze . Thanx , David .

Hey Happy Kyne, thanks for the heads up on Route 66, we'll have that fixed shortly!

  • Happy_Kyne | Tuesday, May 12, 2009 | 1:39 pm

Track 8 is a cover of the Nelson Riddle classic "Theme From Route 66", a early 60's TV show.

  • Rocky21 | Tuesday, May 12, 2009 | 1:19 pm

Some serious problems with the tape dragging on this show. On track 18, the drummer is introduced as Aynsley Dunbar.

  • thetubesproject | Tuesday, May 12, 2009 | 11:09 am

Track 8 and 9 feature Dick Bright of "Little Roger" fame.
