Concert Summary

The Tubes were the hot new band on the Bay Area scene when this very early and rare recording of them was originally broadcast on KSAN FM's "Live From The Record Plant" series. Recorded almost a year before the release of their first album on A&M Records, the band was still a work in progress. What brought them to national attention was a brash and powerful mix of cutting edge musicianship and in-your-face humor.

Spearheaded by lead vocalist Fee Waybill,…entire summary

    This really does sound great.

Awesome show & really good sound quality on the flac dl. This sounds like a professionally mixed muli track rather then a soundboard (makes sense from the record plant!) The Flac was really worth holding out for in this case.

We had a chance to see The Tubes about '78 time at Bham Odeon...had just got back from Paris so we flipped a coin: The Rio (Sabbath Rock Yardley) or the Tubes Landed on The Rio.......just wasn't to be for The Tubes. Shame, they sounded like a great time, loved Prime Time.

Been to to hundreds of shows. Saw the Tubes in Philly at the Mann with Greg Kihn and Tommy 2 Tone. Still one of my all time favorite concerts.

First saw the Tubes at Kezar Stadium in S.F. Opening for Led Zeppelin. They were absolutely awesome, and the fist time I ever say brilliant musicianship combined with the bizzarro/theatrical sense of humor they brought. Costume changes galore! Fee Waybill ! Quay Lewd, tossing out bucket of pills, what a blast! I'm a drummer,in awe of prairie prince. At prairie sun studios in (san rafael?) there were cornfields painted on the walls, stretching out to the horizon, spose to be the work of that very drummer...

PS: From pete in England, If you ever get to see 'The Tubes' on 'The Tube' a show from the 80's in the UK on channel 4, then watch it. Unmissable! I have the show on Video which I recorded from the 80's.

Fantastic, a cross between Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention, Captain Beefeart and Alberto Y Lost Trios Paraonios! from 1975 who I was lucky enough to see in Sheffield, England in 1975. Great Stuff. Pete from England.

Just wanted to echo the kudos for the great sound on this show. Saw the band back in March at a club in Denver. This ain't no oldies/retro show: the Tubes are as vibrant, talented and entertaining as ever. Highly recommended.

Saw them at one of their famouse new years eve show in San Jose. Fee was curious about the low riders - wanting to know where they were since he was in San Jose. He was Rod Stewart doing the Beatles - She was just 17, and Quay Lewd, etc. I think they had two drummers and two key board players. Still remember it 29 years later....
