Concert Summary

Taken from the archives of the late promoter Bill Graham, this performance of San Francisco's legendary art rockers, the Tubes, dates back to 1979, when the band was in their prime. This recording was done just before the Tubes departed A&M Records (where they had been since 1974 and broken as a national act), to start a new and even more successful run on Capitol Records.

The group, which had built its career on rock parodies and comic-driven hard rockin' epic tales, was continually dancing atop the fence that divided good honest rock with a pinch of outrage and pop culture…entire summary

Wasn't this the tour when Fee fell off the stage in Leicester UK whilst swinging the chain saw around? I saw them 3 times in the UK on different tours. One of the greatest R & R shows you could ever see! Big fan. I would just say that when FW fell off the stage, despite reports to the contrary, he didn't carry on but was taken to hospital! I think it was RS who took up singing duties. Rick was hanging around in the park before the show (while we were, ahem, preparing ourselves!) He wore a T shirt with a picture of his own face. Missed the last UK tour but won't miss it again!

I got to see this tour at a midnight show at the Palladium in NYC. The Tubes fit in perfectly to a late 70's Manhattan.

I was at the show at U of M that ended the band (Love Bomb Tour per an article in the local paper that listed the venue wasn't large enough to include the full stage setup) but never noticed the issue. Todd Rundgren opened, and the Tubes played their show that was fully enjoyed. Telecide ended the main set before Quay came out. Incredible show despite the band's issues. I saw them in Mount Clemens and met with Fee and Rick after the show. I was in my glory...both were very eager to chat, and that night was a huge memory for me. I thanked Fee for bringing Quay out in full costume despite the 'family' atmospher of a fireworks show. This band

I was incredibly fortunate to see the Tubes for the first time on this tour at the Edinburgh Odeon, without ever hearing a song from them, which made the experience even more overpoweringly brilliant. The early Squeeze were the support band and they came on to do the Who numbers. I also found myself sitting next to Eugene Reynolds who was the singer in the Scottish punk band The Revillos, I am sure he was taking notes. It's gigs like this that makes you wasn't to invent a time machine. I saw then on their next tour The Completion Backward Tour and yes they were even better. Time Machine Patent Pending.

Saw the Tubes perform this show at the Wolman Rink In Central Park. Todd Rundgren came out to encore the Who tunes with them. God, it was great to be 17 and crazy with these guys providing the entertainment. Another kid from the suburbs with my mouth dropped open in amazement

The dimensions of The Oakland Auditorium were very similar to Winterland . The stage at one end , with lower seating surronding the dance floor , and balcony seating over the lower seating . Great Hall . BGP was putting on shows here after Winterland closed . I went to this show , also . The Tubes were tiring of putting on such an enormous theatrical act , and wanted to showcase what a great rock band they were . I remember them selling their stage props , around this time and just rocking out . Pearl Harbor and the Explosions were also on this show , with The Motels . Oh Yeah , Fee did have a T.V. set on his head . Forgot . Thanx , David .

Helloooo, during 'Tubes World Tour' Rick Anderson and all the rest are being introduced by Fee. It must be a soundboardmixflaw!

So why is Wolfie using a Head Shot from Love Bomb on the photo above?

I was at this show too. This is when they tried to kill of Quay. I am confused on the venue though, when they say Oakland Arena, most people would think it was the arena where the Warriors play. I am under the impression this was recorded at Kaiser Arena, which is in Oakland. I can hear Rick... He is just tightly in the grove between the piano and the kick drum.

Anonymous, was Rick Anderson absent from this show? Out sick maybe? I cannot find even a wisp of his Bass anywhere in the mix of this show. Any bass sounds I hear are coming from the synth or the piano. I'm wondering if they did this show without him. My other thought was this recording sounds like either a mono monitor mix or a PA mix from the soundboard and it may be that the bass amps were loud enough not to have it to those speakers through the soundboard. Great show though, 10 of the 11 Remote Control album songs on here.
