Poster Art Q & A

Description

This rare serigraph touts the Peace and Freedom Cabaret benefit at the recently opened Fillmore West. Peace and freedom, clear political choices for the growing anti-war, anti-establishment groups, were also possible references to the new East Coast musical, Hair, which was performed cabaret-style with the audience. 'Peace' and 'Freedom' were prominent parts of the cast's periodic tribal chants [as were 'Power,' Happiness,' 'Hashish,' 'Heroin,' and a variety of four-letter words designed to shock/rock, depending upon one's perspective].

Serigraphs are extremely high quality reproductions of some of the most significant posters in our collection. To produce a serigraph, layer after layer of ink is applied to the paper, one color at a time, until the piece is finished. The finished print is more brilliant in color and requires a much higher degree of work by the artist and the printer than do offset reproductions. The result is artwork of exceptional quality.
