Concert Summary

Performing on a bill between southern rockers the Gregg Allman Band and Allman's tour openers, Cowboy, this Sons of Champlin set captures what may be the most beloved lineup of the group on a particularly inspired night. The group had recently re-expanded from the six-man lineup of the previous year to an eight-piece featuring the superbly talented horn section of Phil Wood, Mark Isham, and Mike Andreas.

Everyone involved with the band's latest album, Welcome To The Dance, believed it would gain them the recognition that had eluded them through the years. Adding elements of…entire summary

The Sons had a rabid base of fans in Iowa, especially in Iowa City!!! I consider myself lucky enough to have caught many of those shows!!! This is a band that brought you out of your seat and made you shake every part of your body! Thanks for the great music then and still to this day. TJ from Iowa City!

I cannot begin to tell you what a huge influence The Sons Of Champlin were on the band I was in from 1971 to 1975, The Musti Bros. Band from Eugene Or. which evolved into Thumper from Portland Or. They along with Tower of Power, Cold Blood, The Electric Flag, Chicago, Blood, Sweat and Tears and The Rascals were the foundation that we built our band on. My only question is whatever happened to Terry Haggerty. He was such a great guitar player. Unfortunayely you never see his name on any "best of" lists. I saw them the summer of 1973 at Eugene speedway when they headlined over Stoneground and the Elvin Bishop Group. Needless to say it was a great show even though Terry Haggerty's beloved Gibson L5 had just been stolen at the airport and he used a Fender Telecaster instead. Thank you for this great concert. It brings back a lot of fond memories. Loosen Up Naturally indeed.

This was a great concert with Cowboy, The Sons and Gregg Allman. This was the first show I saw with Bill Champlin and the Sons.I remember the Miror Ball being lit up during the three song medley. Great to still hear them on the internet.

So many nights , so many stages , the Sons would always get your booty shakin' and lay down some of the best damn music around. This is a wonderful "capture" of an obviously inspired night for the boys. THANKYOU for letting my ears "smile", once again , listening to THE Sons and thank each and every one of them for all those nights and all those stages !! Gold Mine .... oh Momma you !

Went to Winterland to see Gregg Allman...after the Sons played he should have never come out. They set the bar and nobody could have matched them that night. I saw them do the same opening for Garcia and Saunders. Thanks for an awesome show.
