A combination of blues, Cajun, country, jazz and even psychedeli...more The Tex-Mex band with a carefully crafted British invasion name, the Sir Douglas Quintet was Huey P. Meaux's 1964 creation featuring soon-to-be-legendary songwriter Doug Sahm on guitar. A combination of blues, Cajun, country, jazz and even psychedelia, the early band included San Antonio area friends whose music was notable more for its beat than for its melody. 1965's "She's About a Mover," a Sahm composition with a recurring organ line, made the top 20 and launched a wave of Tex Mex hits. On a roll, the band toured the States and Europe and achieved popularity in Britain. The Quintet moved to the Bay Area in '66, did some retooling and released the popular Mendocino in '69. By 1972, members were more interested in side projects and the band officially broke up. A reunion of sorts in the '80s led to Border Wave in '81 and popularity abroad, this time in Sweden. Daydreaming at Midnight, released in 1994, was the revised Quintet's last official album and featured Sahm's sons on guitar and drums....less
