Concert Summary

Despite an initial career that lasted less than three years and produced only one album and a handful of singles, no group is more responsible for fueling the English punk rock movement than the Sex Pistols. Now regarded as one of the most influential bands in the history of rock, they quickly became notorious not only for the tension and hostility of their music, but for the mayhem they intentionally created everywhere they went. Encouraged by their manager, Malcolm McLaren, the group began their assault by rebelling against social conformity with their 1976 single "Anarchy In The U.K."…entire summary

This is exactly the kind of thing that makes Wolfgang's Vault so indispensable. I'd heard about this gig for years--it's legendary, right down to Johnny Rotten's farewell, "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?" You can hear Sid really struggling just to play the most basic bass parts. But so what? The totality of it is outrageous, unbelievable, fantastic! Musicality has nothing to do with it, as far as I'm concerned.

I feel the same way about the recording you guys recently unearthed of one of the early acid tests (the first maybe?) from January 1966 with the Dead, Neal Cassady making random announcements, P.A. failures, etc. It sounds like total chaos, but it's still so cool for those of us who couldn't be there to be finally able to hear it!

that was a lot of fun to listen to. i was a teen when this was all going down and i couldn't have been less interested. at that time i was into hippie music and upon looking back my vision was not very broad. now i'm in my mid-50's and stuff like this is a lot if fun to hear. go figure. i like all kinds of music these days and pretty much everything (well, almost) is worth checking out. pretty funny, the old man was rockin' today. peace.

@gvtmule, you really don't know what you're talking about do you? You just heard someone say this at a wine and cheese party and thought you'd share your knowledge with us did you? Yes it's true they got together because of Malcom but they all knew each other. Steve and Paul were in bands together previously. Malcom didn't write any of the songs. Why am I wasting my time trying to explain ANYTHING to you. Good luck looking for your "authenticity".

These guys were the Monkees of punk. Conceived and created by a manger. Not a shred of authenticity and even less talent. A complete sham.
