Concert Summary

Recorded just after the release of their fourth LP, In Heat, Detroit's Romantics deliver a King Biscuit Flower Hour performance as red-hot as the leather suits they would often wear in concert. The ultimate retro pop garage-band, the music made by this energetic quartet was just what the doctor had ordered for radio in the late'70s and early '80s. AOR needed to make the transition for the corporate radio rock of Journey, Boston, and Foreigner into something hipper and more in line with the British New Wave…entire summary

Yea...was a great tour. Saw them a few months later when they were opening for The Kinks in Hampton Roads, Va. It was one of the few times that the place was packed for both the opening act & the headliner bands.

We squeezed into a club on Detroit's eastside one night to see Jimmy and the Eastsiders...it was The Romantics playing new material. What was the name of that place?

I saw The Romantics with The Paul Collins Beat on the Spain tour about a year ago. Awesome concert and they still sound just as good! The Romantics were the first rock band of white guys to play on Soul Train and everyone on there seemed to dig their music. I believe that The Romantics' bassist/guitarist Mike Skill met his wife when she was a dancer for The Tubes. The Romantics are some of the most genuine guys in rock n roll. The Romantics have played everything from big arenas to small clubs and continue to tour and record new material.

FYI: In Heat was their fourth album, Strictly Personal (1981) was their third.
