Other than Dylan's controversial 1966 Tour, when he first went electric, his legendary Rolling Thunder Revue Tours of 1975/1976 are the most documented and respected tours of the 1970s. This final night of the 1975 leg, when a huge entourage of musicians, celebrities and guests descended upon Madison Square Garden to raise awareness and funds for the defense of boxer Rubin "Hurricane"…entire summary

I saw The Rolling Thunder Review on Easter Sunday 1976 in Lakeland, Florida at The Civic Center. I was 17 years old and was "incarcerated" at Admiral Farragut Military Academy in St. Petersburg.
I got a buddy of mine(fellow cadet) to go AWOL with me as we took a cab from school to the Trailways terminal. After the bus ride to Lakeland, we ate and walked to the Center(less than a mile).
Dylan had all of the personnel listed in the primary lineup band above. I was able to squirm my way all the way up to the front of the stage, there wasn't any "pit" in between, I actually had my elbows on the stage. David Mansfield was playing everything, piano, fiddle, mandolin, flattop guitar, etc. T-Bone Burnette, Mick Ronson and Roger McGuinn were holding down the electric guitar chairs, with Rob Stoner on bass. Bobby Neuwirth, Joan Baez and Dylan were playing acoustic guitar. The whole show was very charged up, with the snap & crackle of electricity running through the air! I was a huge Dylan fan at the time and this was my 1st time seeing him, you can imagine how fortunate I felt to have him 10 feet away from me playing his repetoire of classic anthems!
Joan Baez did an amazing version of, "The Night They Drove Dixie Down," everyone in the audience was standing and singing along and there wasn't a dry eye in the house...
Bobby Neuwirth had a full bottle of Cuervo Gold set right next to him in a grey bustub full of ice, by the end of the show(almost 4 hours), it was about empty. He was the only cat I saw drink from it...
After taking the bus back to St. Pete, I was caught climbing in the window of the fire escape at school(2am). I got 30 hours of extra duty(marching, etc), but had it reduced to 15 hours after I convinced the disciplinary board that "The Rolling Thunder Review" was actually a dance soiree where I went to meet some girls...!! Thank Ya' Bob, it was worth every hour, marching in the sun...
Robbie Mac - Coconut Grove, Florida

Track 11 is not "Long Black Veil" by Baez. It is a duplicate of track 17, "Chestnut Mare" by McGuinn.

Hurricane is still and always will be one of the most compelling and inspired song/sagas of all time.

Dylan offers up some inspired and even tender numbers here. And check out the alt lyrics for Knocking on Heaven's Door....
