Concert Summary

In May of 1969, the joyously decadent single, "Honky Tonk Woman," signaled the beginning of the second and arguably greatest era of the Rolling Stones. Featuring a 21-year-old Mick Taylor on lead guitar, this song and the subsequent tour to follow would certify The Stones as the most compelling, if not greatest rock and roll band in the world. Over the course of Taylor's live performing tenure with the band (1969-1973), Mick Jagger and Kieth Richards were at the pinnacle of their songwriting powers, writing many of the classics that have come to define the band. As much as Jagger and…entire summary

I stand by my coments-of now some years ago. The Rolling Stones will, unwillingly-and bitinly, be determined to "go out" as THE GREATEST. You could see some of this the way they treated Hubert Sumlin's family. They will only be the BEST--I, whom you should probably pay no attention to,have heard that there have been communications between Richards and Taylor.

Do I get to comment again? I've been hearing rumors that both Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman may return for guest spots on a rumored 40th Anniversary tour. Rumors, rumors, rumors.
As far as Bobby Keyes goes, I had heard that it was time to leave the hotel for one of the gigs and Bobby, on a total rock star ego trip said something to the effect of "Fuck Mick Jagger," and he was persona non grata for like 20 years or something, til Keith could finally talk Mick into hiring him again.
One mustn't insult Sir Mick, right?

Now wait a minute, Jagger/Richards are so in love with themselves they forgot who actually wrote some of their music between 1968 and 1974. Not to mention Taylor played rings around Keith, just like now Woods is awesome...

This recording hardly needs any more accolades, but, what the hell. It is SMOKIN' HOT. It's probably been mentioned elsewhere, but my understanding is that although the great Bobby Keys was on this tour, he DID NOT play the shows in October, having been, in one of the great ironies in the annuls of rock, fired from the band on September 30 for "excessive drinking." This on one of the most drug-fueled tours of all time! Richards tells a great story about it in "Life" that involves Bobby, hot women, and a bathtub full of Dom Perignon champagne. Don't mess with Texas. Kudos here to the unsung Trevor Lawrence on saxophone, who plays his ass off. It's only rock 'n' roll, but it gets my ya-ya's out!

I have been waiting for 39 years to be able to hear this concert again. I remember recording this on the King Biscuit Flower Hour on Philly radio and wearing out the cassette. Been searching ever since for this recording. Why can't I buy a copy?
