Concert Summary

Canada's legendary 1980 Heatwave Festival was the brainchild of concert promoter John Brower, who was based in Toronto. Brower established his reputation a decade prior, as the man behind the 1969 Rock and Roll Revival concert at Varsity Stadium (AKA "Live Peace In Toronto," which featured John Lennon's debut live performance outside The Beatles) and the three-day Woodstock-esque Strawberry Fields Festival held at Ontario's Mosport Park the following summer. For Canadians, as well as thousands of Americans and Europeans who traveled to this event, Brower's Heatwave Festival would become…entire summary

Saw the Pretenders in the Detroit area a few times, but it was before 80 (if I recall). Great seats Same era as The Romantics. She'll remember. She exuded pure sensuallity in her voice! What were we looking for? Raw, but PURE music, and real meaning in the music. And they could play.
    STILL classic album collection!

I have always loved the Early Pretendes, her recent CD is amazing also. This show kicks butt.

These Heatwave concerts are tremendous and this is vintage Pretenders. Please, please, please add Teenage Head and The Rumour. Lesser known but both amazing. The three LP's the Rumour did without Parker are all excellent.

Definitely a band that grows on you and Chrissy Hyndes voice is one for the ages.Such a shame how heroin ruined the original incarnation of this band

    James Honeyman-Scott! What a loss.

all top-notch musicians in fine form here. Tattooed Love Boys is incendiary, and Up The Neck leaves 'em hanging. Chrissie Hynde hasn't lost much over the years since this concert, still sends shivers down my spine when she sings some phrases.
