Concert Summary

The Pretenders burst onto the international music scene in 1979 during the second British Invasion that featured legendary punk groups like the Sex Pistols, the Clash, and Siouxsie & The Banshees. Spearheaded by the tough, leather-clad American expatriate Chrissie Hynde, the group churned out street-smart punk 'n' roll anthems that would also provide radio directors with a hot new sound.

It had taken Hynde several years and a few false starts, but in rustic Hereford, England, she discovered the definitive Pretenders lineup of guitarist James Honeyman-Scott, bassist Pete Farndon and…entire summary

This was an incredible show and line-up and I must agree with others they were never the the same after the passing of James Honeyman Scott. Chrissie has one of the sexiest voices in rock...

Why do Bill Graham's recordings from the 60's sound better than this show- but at least I can hear the audience members clearly ?

This show has brought back a flood of good and bad memories. It was an excellent show that captures the Pretenders at the height of their power. To this day, I'm still angry with, and miss James Honeyman Scott as I felt he was one of the most taseful hard rock players out there, and the band was never the same after his death. The bad news part is that my girlfriend at the time broke up with me by sending her sister to the concert in her place.

I love the Pretenders of this era. James Honeyman-Scott played such tasteful little fills--he really is one of the unsung heroes of rock, IMHO. The songs on the first two albums were all great. The Pretenders were far more melodic and inventive than most bands of that era. It's great to hear them in their prime.

I saw the Pretenders in '79 at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin for $3.00! It was one of the best shows I've ever seen -- the "crowd" (it was a small venue) was one of the happiest I've ever been in -- everyone looking at each other in disbelief. What a night. The next year they were back in triumph, having conquered the world, $15.00 at the Austin Opry House. Worth every penny.

I saw them same year at Heatwave a dreadful festival at Mosport park. I bought tix because the clash were to play and subsequently backed out. By far the best 2 performances of the day were Teh Pretenders and Teh Ramones. Canadas Teenage head diod a respectable job at 9 am but i was still recovering from the night before James was brilliant. Though I will give Chrissy Kudos for the new album i think it's the best thing she's done since this era

i was at this show; one of the best shows by the Pretenders. After they finished the show the crowd would not leave. They turned on the lights; said the show was over and still no one left. The pretenders came back on after about 15 minutes and said that they did not know any more songs; so they played a song for the second time( can't remember the song)and than played some Hendrix. WHAT A NIGHT!!!!

If that's not the sexiest voice in rock, I don't know what is ...
