Concert Summary

The Pointer Sisters began in the Oakland, CA area as a quartet. Sisters Bonnie, Ruth, Anita, and June Pointers were the daughters of a minister who initially indoctrinated them into the world of Gospel music. But with the emergence of the counterculture in the Bay Area in the 1960s, they gravitated toward secular music.

In 1971, they debuted as the Pointer Sisters doing a retro '40s fashion look mixed with a decidedly New Orleans R&B feel. They had their first hit single with a cover of Allen Toussaint's "Yes We Can Can." The ladies received both media and commercial success, but still…entire summary

Very happy to be able to hear the Pointer Sisters in concert. I am always delighted by their harmonic abilities. I especially like their earlier efforts. Thank you for keeping this online.

Awesome! The raw vocals of the Pointers are SO good... The first song is actually "We're Gonna Make It" and the last song is "Happiness".

They sound great. It's so good to hear real voices that are live and not souped up with tech to fill out the sounds, who can sing harmony, swap out parts, and each sing lead.

Great concert! It shows the Pointers before they became "high gloss." You can tell they love to sing and entertain.

great concert! Love the Sisters's earlier material and this is a rare treat for Pointer Sisters fans who appreciate the material before "Jump" and "I'm So Excited" Couple corrections...The Opening song is "We're Gonna Make It" from the Black and White Album, it is not called "Keep on Pushing" and The last song is "Happiness" from the Energy album...not "Could I Be Dreaming" Excellent concert though and thanks for posting it.

In the intro to "Yes You Can Can" one of the sisters mentions that the song "...means just as much right now in 1982...", so the 7/5/85 date must not be right.
