Concert Summary

As many may already know, on the final night (July 4th) of the closing week festivities at Fillmore West a lengthy jam session occurred, featuring many great musicians and singers. What few remember is that a similar event occurred earlier in the week (on the first night, June 30); it was this jam session, in fact, that provided the two tracks that made it onto the Fillmore: The Last Days live release.

The core band includes Elvin Bishop on lead guitar, Stephen Miller (from Elvin's band) on organ, David…entire summary

I met the sisters just before they became famous. They were recording an lp in oakland if memory serves. They were living in an apartment in pleasanton and they invited me and my pal inside, where we partied and they performed and joked and told us all kinds of stories. It was great. My pal thought they were strange black girls, but I enjoyed being around them. I went back five or six times, then without a word they were gone. I remember thinking that they were probably bullshitting about recording an lp and being "on the way up", I was wrong. I still think about them, what a great bunch of girls they are.

One of the best Pointer songs is also the only "country" song they ever recorded. Please post "Fairytale" if you got it...thanks!

Hey WV . I'm the person who helped you identify Bonnie Pointer as The Mysterious Bonnie , some time back , when you first found this goldmine jam session . I didn't get to go to any of these shows back in 71 , because my Mother found a pound in my room a couple of days before this week . So I was in trouble . Did listen to the entire week on K-SAN , however . I went to the Moby Grape show , the week before . Sure would like to hear that one again ,if possible . We're still waiting for Hot Tuna , Quicksilver , New Riders , Santana ,the final night jam session , and whatever else I've left off that you have'nt already made available for our listening pleasure , from that great week. P.S. I was sixteen years young at the time . Thanx , David .

This is a great little piece of musical history, considering they didn't record or perform as the Pointer Sisters until 1973. This song is typical of their earlier material too, where they chose what they liked to sing. I saw one of their debut performances, June 2, 1973 in San Rafael. A strange lineup of performers, Jesse Colin Young, Herbie Hancock, Pamela Polland, Merl Saunders/Jerry Garcia Band and the four young P-sisters.
