The New Riders Of The Purple Sage were still red hot from the days of the Panama Red album when this show was recorded. Great concert, great picking for example on "Henry." Like fellow space cowboys Commander Cody, NRPS had superb musicianship and guaranteed likability onstage. Saw them at the great Music Inn outdoors in Lenox, Mass. (Berkshires) in summer of 1978, at the Springfield Civic Center with the Allman Brothers in '79, then a downsized NRPS at Hangar One in Hadley in '82. Met John Dawson at the Iron Horse in Northampton many years later--great dude, sorely missed!

On a Sunday afternoon without a word till that day, back in 75,American Univ.in DC,had a free New Riders show.Twas one of those beautiful sunny days, n everyone in the land turned out for this historic event.I had the blessin of going back stage to hang out with the fellas. And all i can say is O what a mighty time!"Duke" unsnapped his westren shirt pocket n pulled out this big chunk of red h***,from Austin,to share with whoever,to prepare for the show.I will never forget that show,to be on the same frame of mind with them for the day! Phew! Peace Doc

with the exception of bass players this is the line-up of NRPS I was lucky enuff 2 c many, many times. No matter where i saw them b it a college gymnasium or a Shakespeare theater (Stratford,CT). A night with NRPS met a fun night in a smoked filled facility-Acapulco Gold competing with ole Panama Red. The golden age of rock 'n roll.

I've had 3 Big Red Irish Setters named....you got it...."Panama Red", some of the best dogs I ever had, I also had a Setter by the name of "Old Blue", a Roger McGuinn Byrds tune. I love the New Riders, without a doubt this is the best show listed here with the vault! Thanx for pouring out this great music! "Wild" Bill Cody

Buddy Cage has to be put in a class with Buddy Emmons and Rusty Young. Without him the NRPS might as well stop touring. Still think "Dead Flowers" there best song.
