This British band, originally called the Ravers, was led by Ray and Dave Davies. "There's nothing kinky about us though," said Ray Davies. "Kinky is such a fashionable word we knew people would remember it." They scored a hit in 1964 with "You Really Got Me" and "All Day and All of the Night," which paved the way for the power chords of the next decade's hard rock. Their clever and amusing records reflected their wry view of sixties England. By the late 1960s however, Ray and Dave were growing apart and pursued solo careers in addition to their Kinks involvement. This distraction created a rift with other band members, who left.
