Concert Summary

Songwriter, bandleader, social critic, poet, and humorist all apply to The Kinks frontman Ray Davies. Unlike other British Invasion-era bandleaders, he didn't seem comfortable as a frontman. The Kinks weren't cute like The Beatles, or cocky like the Stones. The band's sound was also different. Much less rooted in American music, …entire summary

These shows are great, if sometimes truncated. The Kinks were banned from touring in the US in the late sixties, for several years. This must have been a huge setback and I guess they must have felt like they were playing catchup. Love this era, wonderful British band.

Buddy, what were people doing? In a pit? The announcer said 3K people were watching the show and a few hundred were in a pit. Thanks

I was at this show. What I remember most is everyone standing on the seats for the entire show. My recollection is that Al Kooper's band was the opening act and he did several encores (please correct me if I am wrong). You can tell from the show that the crowd was wild (between Alchol and Skin and Bone).
