Concert Summary

The Good Rats were an institution in Long Island and the five boroughs of New York, and remained a popular musical export with a fiercely loyal fan-base. The Good Rats were fronted by brothers Mickey and Peppy Marchello (on guitar and vocals, respectively), and although they did score a record deal with Warner Brothers Records in the '70s, they remained a cult band that toured constantly on the Northeast club circuit. The Rats were a great live band…entire summary

Another LI'er who loved the RATS. Great albums up thru Rats to Riches, not really into the last one, AMerican Something-or-Other. Excellent live show, great musical chops, a bar band that almost got there. Perhaps it was becasue Pepi was a littel too ugly back then, not pretty like S'Side Johnny, Bruce, or Johnny Cougar.

My friends and I went to see The Good Rats at the Bottom Line, and a variety of other places (Long Island, Connecticut, Philaldelphia) when we were in High School and College. Over thirty years later, I still listen to their songs once in a while - and was fortunate enough to attend their 2008 reunion concert in NYC at BB Kings (to which I brought my son and a couple of those same old friends - it was awesome!) I love the fact The Good Rats never "made it big" and are at least a little unknown, because that makes them even more special as one of the odds and ends that uniquely defines my own life. I've never wanted to be too affiliated with the common masses!! Good Rats fans share the experience of having been part of something a little different (and a little better). Maybe I'll book the band for my retirement party in a few years... In the meantime, Pepi et al, keep on rockin"!!!

A freezing cold night back in 75, The dingy little Show Place in Dover NJ was hot and rockin like hell. I lost part of my hearing in that place, thanks to the Good Rats, it was worth it, ah the memories.
