Concert Summary

The Good Rats, protectors and defenders of the league of New York bar bands, played all over the Northeast US for the better part of two decades. With Peppi Marchello on lead vocals (complete with throaty New York-drenched vocal inflections), the band was consistently one of the best club draws on the Eastern seaboard, with a fiercely loyal following.

Although this is one of the shorter shows from a several night engagement at New York's legendary Bottom Line club recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour, it is…entire summary

Living in FL now. Rats were decent entertainment for a 17 yr old drinking heinekens for $1.75 (quarter tips?) at a album taping in Old Roslyn, Gatto "walkin" the bar in Deer Park, Joe Franco possibly best drummer to accompany a softball bat. Moved to FL in 81 and my first night out they were playing Playpen South in Lauderdale. Thanks for memories Vault -

Saw the boys many times up in Fore N Aft Clubs. Still sounds fresh. I love Peppi's connection with the audience. Maybe the Rat's did not act like snooty rockstars (so they never were siged to a big label) The record company's loss. Thanks guys for being part of my mis spent youth.

Most of you have said it all. If I saw them once I saw them a hundred times and no two shows alike. Saw them first as soon as I could drive in the Summer of 1980 or 81' at Rockaways in Rockaway NY. Great club. When Peppi steped on stage with his Bat I thought he was the owner of the club ready to lay down the law because we were being rowdy. Since then have seen them soooo many times in over 28 years. They are STILL great and age has only been an improvement. THE GREATEST UNSIGNED BAND IN THE WORLD! THE MOST FAMOUS UNSIGNED BAND IN THE WORLD THE GREATEST BAR BAND IN THE WORLD. PEPPI'S VOCALS WAS EITHER VOTED AND OR DESCRIBED AS THE GREATEST VOCALS EVER ON LONG ISLAND. No matter how you say it. The Good Rats are the one and only! They need to make a documentary about them like they did ANVIL. God bless you Peppi and all the boys. You have carried us through all the rough times and helped us celebrate the good times. Ratstock here we come 2009!!

Saw 'Da Rats' at University of Hartford, circa 1982. I had heard their two albums out at the time , but was not prepared for one of the BEST rock-n-roll shows of all time ! Still a fan and still a Good Rat.
