The Four Tops

One of Motown's most cherished bands, the Four Tops, emerged from Detroit in the mid-1950s when friends Levi Stubbs, Renaldo Benson, Abdul Fakir and Lawrence Payton discovered they had a knack for singing. Originally the Four Aims, the group changed their name to the Four Tops to avoid confusion with the Ames Brothers. Signed to Motown in '64, the quartet began a chart-topping journey that would include a string of hits including "Baby I Need Your Loving," "I Can't Help Myself (Sugarpie Honeybunch)" and "Same Old Song." The Four Tops continued to produce hits throughout the '70s and into the '80s and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
