Concert Summary

This extremely rare live recording of the Flock was captured during a most legendary run in New Orleans, opening for Fleetwood Mac and the Grateful Dead. It was on this night, following this very show, that members of the Grateful Dead and crew were arrested on drug charges, forever immortalized by Robert Hunterentire summary

I saw the slimmed down "The Flock" at the Rivoli Theatre in Indianapolis. This was after Jerry Goodman left for the Mahavishnu Orchestra. The gent that replaced Jerry was really good. My only disappointment was they didn't play anything from the second album. I sure wanted to hear Uranius Circus, live.

Saw these guys at the Filmore East in 1970 I think. A show with John Mayall's USA Union (I think), And It's a Beautiful day. What a night. Jerry Goodman made such an impression on me.. I just pulled out my old vinyl album and recorded it into the computer to make a CD.

Our band, United Soul Movement (USM) opened for C.T.A.,The Flock and Aorta when they played at Dex Card's Wild Goose in Chicago. Jerry Goodman's opening solos are legendary among the select few that heard them. Thanks to the Vault for unearthing this blast from the past. Now, if you could only develop a time machine to cut out the intervening 38 years ...

There is an obscure movie called Stamping Ground, a film of a Dutch Rock Festival in June 1970, that includes live footage of The Flock. It is an interesting, if badly produced, document, as there is video of many other long-neglected bands. The legal status of the DVD has always been vague, but you can get it on Amazon.

Columbia Records signed a bunch of acts from Chicago---Aorta, Chicago Transit Authority, Illinois Speed Press and The Flock--and then staggered the releases of their albums to imply that Chicago was the next San Francisco. Shades of the Boss-Town Sound. All of them were good bands, as it happened, but only CTA hit it big.
