Concert Summary

Formed in San Francisco in 1965, The Flamin' Groovies, and their brand of British invasion-inspired rock 'n' roll, were soon relegated to cult status - especially when the San Francisco scene became dominated by the more overtly psychedelic bands. It's a testament to Bill Graham, however, that he honored the band with a slot on this night's bill, despite their lacking commercial popularity at the time. This set also catches the band at the tail end…entire summary

Guitar is amazing even though singer sounds like Jello Biafra on Teenage Head. Thanx Wolfgang, BG r.i.p.

yeh, this group is so underrated...seriously ahead of their time...ramones first tour was opening for the groovies...one of my fave punk bands of all time!!!...sound quality is MUCH better on the official release...this sounds like a seventh gen tape or something...GREAT show, though..."roadhouse" is a monster...rhythm sections tears it down l.a.m.f....

Check out The Flamin' Groovies - In Person cd. It's the same concert but has the correct start whereas the cd starts mid song(I Can't Explain). The cd has extra tracks which have been taken off The Flamin' Groovies "70" cd/album. Still superb. The version of LOUIE LOUIE is the best version in my opinion. If the quality was better it would be 1 of my best Live albums

Despite the soundboard mix, this thing rocks, especially "Slow Death" and "Teenage Head." Sounds like Danny Mihm was still on drums and the addition of James Ferrell just before Tim Lynch left pushed Cyril to some of his best slide playing. Recently caught Cyril in Boston with "new" band Magic Christian - "T.H." was a show stopper- see them if they come your way. The man - and the plexi Dan Armstong - are still legends.
