Back to Tommy Crain...I just saw Tommy Crain and the Crosstown Allstars this weekend at club in Orlando. They Frickin' blew me and everyone else there away!!! TC and the band were phemonimal!!!The band was made up of stellar musicians from the Atlanta rea. Jack Hall from Wet Willie was on bass, a steady funky inventive player. The band did everything from blues to an extremely funky version of the Temps, " Papa was a Rolling Stone". They went WAAAAYYYYY over the top with the Allman's instrumental "Hot'Lanta". I seen many bands in my life, but this was the closer things I've ever seen to the original (Best version) of the Allman Brothers. The only thing they lacked was a 2nd drummer. Check out the Tommy Crain and the Crosstown Allstars...they play on a regular basis in Atlanta. Tommy's playing was electric, blistering, and ferocious. The band had such a steady groove goning on...they played original tunes, lot's of blues based and good ole southern rock. Hey I still buzzin' days afterwards from being able to witness the power of this band. They are all allstars...Joe Rumer is the other guitarist and the main singer....he is terrific on vocal, lead and slide...a very soulful singer! In this band if Tommy is Duane, then Joe is certainly Dickey and I mean that as the highest of compliments. They don't make music like this much anymore...catch 'em if you can!... http://www.crosstownallstars.com/

Tommy can be found playing music down south. Great guitarist, Cumberland Mountain number 9 is one of my all time favorites. I could not find the lyrics to that song anywhere. I e mailed Tommy and he typed the lyrics out for me. Class act, that Tommy. Here is his web site. Thanks again to Bill Graham and the vault! Jeff http://crosstownallstars.com/

Great show by a great band and Charlie is a class act. Nice that he remembers his friends like Tommy Caldwell of The Marshall Tucker Band who just passed away earlier in 1980. Charlie always told the story of how when they were touring with MTB and Tommy came to see them in their cheap hotel and aksed Charlie why they were not staying in the same nice hotel with MTB. Charlie simply said that we can't afford it. Tommy left and returned and pulled out $2000 from his boot and gave it to him and said when you tour with us you stay in the same hotel we do. If you can pay it back , fine, if not that is OK too! That is the kind of person Tommy was and Charlie still is. He never forgets his friends. Speaking of MTB lets get more shows from them in the vault. I know there are more and also lets get them off of the Silver Eagle side...THEY ARE NOT COUNTRY!!! ziggi

I Too must agree that Tommy Crain, is/was the most underated musician of this era CDB first showed up in Chas. WV. at a gig called Springfest with Skynrd and M T B which encored with The Souths Gonna Do it again and feature TOY CALDWELL ALLEN COLLINS GARY ROSSINGTON & TOMMY CRAIN all taking a ride on that and Orange blossom Special what a GIBSON GUITAR Commercial that would have been, anyway that was in the spring of 73-74 and after that they hit the Chas Civic Center Stage every Christmas break between DEC.20TH and 1 JAN. and Damn they were one of the tightest bands around and I knew what I was getting for Christmas every year,I didnt miss 1 show untill I left for the Army in Oct. 82, I am not sure what happened with MR. TOMMY CRAIN who wrote Cuberland MTN #9 rumor has it that he bought a Horse Farm in TN. and was just tired of the road But if anyone Knows for sure please let me know I have seen and love Dickie Betts of Allman Brothers band but I put him and Tommy Crain neck and neck along with Stevie Gaines as the best ever Southern Rock & Roll GUITARISTS and I have seen almost(999.99 %) all of them.

YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO THIS.....Charlie Daniels is an American icon. The gradndaddy of Southern Rock and he's still going strong today. I saw this band many times during the late 70's and 80's and this was one hard-workin' rockin' outfit..."it don't no better than this!" This band has a horn section, three beautiful babes a back-up singers, and I think this time period also had the Stony Mountain Cloggers for the show's finale. The supporting musicians Taz on keyboards and Tommy Crain play on fire....Taz's no Portion for the Pain is high class blues beltres, and who wouldn't be waving that Conderate flag after Tommy Crain's "Just a Lonesome Boy from Dixie". BTW Tommy Crain was one of the most under-rated guitarist of the era...Once that fiddle comesout on Texas it gets fired up all the through the climax on Orange Blossom Special. I'd say the South's Done It Again!!!! Charlie Daniels is a southern gentleman of the highest degree and he is the Will Rodgers of our age. Gob Bless America and God Bless Charlie Daniels! Enjoy this concert...
