Concert Summary

Opening with "Heavy Hand" and moving into the power track "Tremble," it is clear that the Call really should have been a massively successful band. They had a reasonable following, and singer/bassist Michael Been found further success with an acting career. The band had all the potential to be the U.S. version of U2, but alas… it was not meant to be.

This recording comes from the King Biscuit Flower Hour archives and is from a show taped while the band was on the road promoting its Modern Romans album. That album and the single, "The Walls Came Down," made a minor bleep on the…entire summary

The Call, what a great band that really had a message for us all to live by. Like all the great ones who die young, sometimes its better to remember them as they were. The Call's music will live forever! I thank God that he gave us the Call. War Weary World, Love rebuilds a man,it says it all.

I recall seeing this tour back in Cleveland Ohio at the infamous Agora. The Call later opened for Peter Gabriel that evening. One of America's most underrated bands ever. Michael Been was gifted vocally and lyrically. It is was too wrong that they don't tour ever once in a while today. I wish they would release their Modern Romans CD. An Absolute classic...

Great early show. A treat to have online. The Call is still relevant today!

I saw this tour at the Paradiso in Amsterdam, one of the few times they did play in Europe. Michael been is one of my favourite singers, this show proves why.

I went to see them live many times, mostly at the Coach House in Southern Ca. They were as powerful live as these concerts indicate. Why they never became as popular as it seemed they should probably can be blamed on both their record labels and the radio stations that would not play their amazing music. It was very sad toward the end, when only about 50 - 100 people would show up at their concerts. They truly deserved MUCH better. At least they still have their faith.

Why these guys never became superstars is beyond me. I never saw them live but own all their albums. Great music with insightful lyrics. Go figure?

Originally from Tulsa, they were called "Motion Picture", the band moved to Santa Cruz,CA near Boulder Creek, played regularly at the Brookdale Lodge and even had Garth Hudson play with them when he was around. Friends with the remaining elements of Moby Grape they played their first San Francisco gig at the Boarding House. Been was pals with Willem DaFoe and yes became a bit distracted during the quest to explore dual careers, this was one well rehearsed band having played together for years before starting to break.
