Concert Summary

Recorded a few weeks prior to the closing of the Fillmore East, this show was to be the last concert played by The Byrds at either Fillmore. Having undergone numerous personnel changes, The Byrds, by the summer of 1971, were at their expressive peak as a live band, having sustained a consistent lineup for almost two years. At a time when many of their contemporaries were either breaking up or losing their creative potency, Theentire summary

i was position at point . Clarence had on a cape. the back of my nape stood UP. Lights in the feelmore cast upon clarence a glow upon which he unveiled a skelton garmet which i somewhat recall from this show It was so telling I LOVE CLARENCE FOR THAT ETERNAL INSIGHT. I wish others were able to partake in his ...... yeah love. PS that garment shown a perfect image of a perfect X -RAY of his chest .Now who the fuck saw that pleese Or the brooklyn academy 0f music shows

I can't remember if this was the show I saw but I saw them (among others) at the Fillmore back then & can't believe how lucky we were. I was 15! I also this bands supposed farewell show at the Academy of Music 2 years later...both Clarence's B-bender work and Roger's Rikenbacker were such an awesome combination! As far as the Fillmore and their awesome staff goes...renember the Dannon yogurt! RIP Uncle Bobo..

it feels like clarence just excelled in a matter of a year doing that electric thing (so he called it). They are such a tight band in this set its just amazing! This shows how great of a live band they were i mean they are up there with the allmans in this performance! just steller stuf, id like to see that guy in the other show on the vault that said clarence was a little overated listen to this show!

THIS SHOW SOUNDS TO ME LIKE A BAND "HITTING IT'S STRIDE", MUCH LIKE THE ALLMANS @ FILLMORE EAST ALBUM. THEY ABSOLUTELY COOKED ON "EIGHT MILES HIGH", WITH CLARENCE WHITE PUTTING ON A STRING-BENDING "CLINIC". THE RYTHYM SECTION WAS EXTREMELY TIGHT; LOTS OF ENTHUSIASM AND PROBABLY TYPICAL OF THE DAY. I GO OUT QUITE OFTEN TO WATCH LIVE MUSIC, AND I RARELY WITNESS ANY ONE STRETCHING IT OUT OR TAKING ANY RISKS OF ANY KIND (CAN YOU SAY "BORING"?)...THAT TYPE OF RISK TAKING,EXPERIMENTATION IN MUSIC WAS PART OF WHAT MADE MUSIC OF THAT ERA SO COOL!

Oh god...that "Chestnut Mare" was unbelievably brilliant. Clarence and Jim sound amazing-they play so perfectly together. They capture the technical perfection of the recording but add the emotional inspiration of the moment. Hearing this makes you realize why Jimmy Page cut up three of his guitars for Clarence's B-string bender and proceeded to build his whole style from 'In Through The Out Door' through the whole of his 80's work on what he heard on 'Untitled' and 'Sweetheart Of The Rodeo'. Clarence was a master.

Didn't make it to this show, having been at the Fillmore three nights previous for FZ and The Mothers where they performed the Mudshark along with Flo and Eddie. Very nice to hear what I missed. Many thanx to Wolfgang and BG.

Hello rockconcertsrock, You are not talking about the Dillards or the Darlings from the Andy Griffith Show are you? Clarence White was not in the Dillards. He appeared as one of The Country Boys but they were not the guys who played from their truck. That was the Darlings.

Amazing. I was at the Fillmore East, on my 18th birthday, despite having been in a car accident earlier that day, with torn ligaments and a broken nose. Crazy, walking with a cane, but there! I can't believe this concert was captured, saved, and turns up on the 'net nearly 40 years later! The Vault ROCKS! Thank you for being there. The concert was one of the greatest I ever attended, I'll always remember it. Still have the original program. Memory of a lifetime.
