Concert Summary

Recorded a few weeks prior to the closing of the Fillmore East, this show was to be the last concert played by The Byrds at either Fillmore. Having undergone numerous personnel changes, The Byrds, by the summer of 1971, were at their expressive peak as a live band, having sustained a consistent lineup for almost two years. At a time when many of their contemporaries were either breaking up or losing their creative potency, …entire summary

Great show - we all rave about Clarence but Skip Battin is bang on the money & this night is a great performance

Oh god...that "Chestnut Mare" was unbelievably brilliant. Clarence and Jim sound amazing-they play so perfectly together. They capture the technical perfection of the recording but add the emotional inspiration of the moment. Hearing this makes you realize why Jimmy Page cut up three of his guitars for Clarence's B-string bender and proceeded to build his whole style from 'In Through The Out Door' through the whole of his 80's work on what he heard on 'Untitled' and 'Sweetheart Of The Rodeo'. Clarence was a master.

Didn't make it to this show, having been at the Fillmore three nights previous for FZ and The Mothers where they performed the Mudshark along with Flo and Eddie. Very nice to hear what I missed. Many thanx to Wolfgang and BG.

Hello rockconcertsrock, You are not talking about the Dillards or the Darlings from the Andy Griffith Show are you? Clarence White was not in the Dillards. He appeared as one of The Country Boys but they were not the guys who played from their truck. That was the Darlings.

Amazing. I was at the Fillmore East, on my 18th birthday, despite having been in a car accident earlier that day, with torn ligaments and a broken nose. Crazy, walking with a cane, but there! I can't believe this concert was captured, saved, and turns up on the 'net nearly 40 years later! The Vault ROCKS! Thank you for being there. The concert was one of the greatest I ever attended, I'll always remember it. Still have the original program. Memory of a lifetime.

Byrds guitarist Clarence White was on the Andy Griffith Show. Pay close attention next time you watch. He was one of the musicians in the hillbilly family who played bluegrass from the bed of their pickup truck. You will recognize him.

Great gig by a great lineup. I wish I could have seen this one (but I was 16 at the time) I have seen McGuinn & Hillman numerous times since, but this really cooks! The Battin/Parsons backbone kicks it into another gear & Clarence's sound interweaves perfectly with McGuinn's tone. Check this out!! If anyone is playing close to this today, please let me know!
