Concert Summary

Recorded on the tour that returned Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson to the performing stage, the group's 1979 tour was the last to feature all five of the original members: Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, Mike Love and Al Jardine. It also combined the talents of Brian Wilson and Bruce Johnston, who was brought in to replace Brian on the road when he suffered a nervous breakdown in 1964.

Have the complete soundboard from the Nassua show...This seems to be a 'best of'...which is great to work to.

Saw them in Augusta Maine shortly there after in 1979....and within a month Dennis Wilson was fired.

Boy, did this conjure up some memories. In 1979, I had my dream job, Corporate Controller of PolyGram, now Universal Music. Aside from the numbers, I'd been a dedicated rockn'roll fan since I was a little kid. I'd had my own bands in HS and college and was a huge fan of all things Beach Boys.

As I left Grand Central Terminal that mid May morning towards my office at 450 Park at about 8:15 AM, imagine my surprise when I came face to face with a very bewildered Brian, being "handled" by Dr. Landy and several other bodyguards. All I could say was - "Brian, I'm a huge fan", to which he gave me a half smile and walked on.

I was at this concert at Nassau Coliseum, as I had been to most of them in NY and Boston (where I went to college) since 1964. In fact, I was at the concert in Boston, in '64 when Glen Campbell was introduced as Brian's "temporary" replacement. Little did any of the fans know the extent of Brian's demons that prevented him from appearing.

I wasn't expecting much after reading about this period in Brian's life, but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this performance. A little rough in spots, but overall not bad.
