  • Anonymous Thursday, April 19, 2012 1:18 pm I pray to this. RIP Levon.
  • surf69 Thursday, April 19, 2012 8:32 am i was at this show and many, many more at the mecca of music,,,winterland
  • exile_ken Tuesday, April 17, 2012 10:37 pm Just read tonight that Levon is on his death bed, in the final stages of cancer. Go in peace my brother. You are one of the all time greats.
  • DownHill Phil Friday, December 23, 2011 8:52 am Any guitar player who has played blues or rock leads can validate that RR's playing is live and not over-dubbed. Just notice where his fingers are and listen....even with the annoying video delay. No one could duplicate those leads and fills, many of which are improvised, in a studio setting. Sure, a fix here and there is possible but remember that these guys are pros, first class musicians, and can deliver every time. It was their job to do so, even with their trademark looseness and those worldly distractions (and subsequent funkiness here and there, that’s why we love them); we lucky to listen and watch them on-line.
  • Sungold Saturday, December 03, 2011 9:30 pm no matter how many times i watch this, it never gets old. the sound is awesome!
  • Anonymous Thursday, November 24, 2011 9:18 am Can than this really be 35 years old? Wow... good music is timeless isn't it...
  • Anonymous Thursday, November 24, 2011 9:16 am Is this the all time classic concert or what? endlessly watchable...
  • Anonymous Monday, November 21, 2011 7:38 pm Wow, Carl Radle was there...I know alot of this sounded raw, but they should have included more into the final cut
  • Big Band Dan Monday, November 21, 2011 9:24 am I just love the Band and never get tired of their great music. Peace
  • Anonymous Monday, November 21, 2011 7:19 am Contrary to some comments here, the live concert was not re-recorded bit by bit. I've had a soundboard CD set of the entire concert for several years, and the songs heard on the released "Last Waltz" are the same recordings, along with the unreleased ones. The mix is different but one can tell it's the same recording. There were a couple false starts that were edited out of the film, and perhaps a bad note fixed here and there, but the oft-repeated urban legend of "only Levon's Drums are real" is just that.
  • Izier Willie Monday, November 21, 2011 4:53 am Haven't seen - heard - such good music ever since.... nostalgy does not kill, neither quality, nor beauty. Thanx you guys for the joy i still feel listening to all your albums.
  • Anonymous Thursday, October 20, 2011 7:15 pm yeah...its actually cool hearing robbie sound like total out of tune crap on forever young...I love the authenticity of a bad night out!
  • DeeinCT Thursday, September 15, 2011 10:01 am Wasn't Robertson's microphone switched off during the songs? You can tell that he was coached by Scorsese to "act" during many of the songs. Compare that to the genuine performances of the four other guys.
  • Purehoney100% Tuesday, August 30, 2011 5:43 am Bob Dylan is one the greatest artists that I have ever seen! I am so elated that I could see him in The Last Waltz again!!! Thank you!!
  • portland john Sunday, August 07, 2011 7:25 pm I don't care a lick about the over dubs, post dubs at all. I just love this music. I'll never get over how good this is. My 19 year old son agrees, we listen to TLW, we listen to this, we just dig good music. I've seen the Band enough times (even without Robbie), to know they always made me feel just as great as these videos do. THanks Bill. Thanks Martin. Thanks, Band et al.
  • ILUVSF Thursday, July 28, 2011 5:56 pm This is confusing-The sets for "The last waltz" are up; but theses almost sound like a preformance the night before, or a soundcheck with an audience. I have the "Last Waltz" box set, and these versons sound nothing like them. Somebody please explain. Thanks
  • Anonymous Monday, June 27, 2011 6:27 pm My Holy Grail!! The complete Last Waltz . The Band....simply the best. I still have the orginal poster from the concert on my wall.
  • it's me Monday, June 27, 2011 12:14 pm I remember this show like it was yesterday...Thank you Uncle Bill!!(~};)
  • ABandMan Sunday, June 19, 2011 5:23 am you cant complain about the last waltz and robbie having the most camera time ok the guests had the most time with robbie and rick in there front stage had the most time ok get that in your mind and quit bitching about robbie robertson
  • ABandMan Sunday, June 19, 2011 5:20 am ok for one thing they all had = camera time for the dumb fucks listen here ok for 1 thing the only reason levon and richard arent shown enough is because no idiot is dumb enough to put drums or paino front stage ok?
  • Anonymous Friday, May 27, 2011 1:11 pm happy belated birthday Levon!! what a great version of this tune- they are on fire!! got a good dose of Band tunes on KPIG radio the other day. stream it free here http://www.kpig.com/index.cfm/streaming_free_trial.htm
  • Anonymous Tuesday, May 17, 2011 8:44 pm reading most of these comments is an unfortunate reminder at how rampant ignorance truly is. how convenient that in levon's book he wrote that everyone overdubbed but him. and what's even funnier is all you sheep that just go along with it. hahaha. they sound tight and this is a crappy board mix. by the way this video is from Bill Graham. He had audio and videographers at Winterland.
  • Anonymous Tuesday, May 17, 2011 8:39 pm wow
  • Anonymous Friday, May 13, 2011 4:56 am great to actually hear and see (a little bit) of Richard.
  • Stig O'Tracy Thursday, May 12, 2011 10:02 am College dorm mate (in 1977) went to this show and raved about it. Assume from the comments that this is the unadulterated version, sounds pretty good to me.
  • mrnatural Wednesday, May 11, 2011 7:18 am Anybody have any info on the source of this vid? Looks to me like a monochrome vidicon camera recorded to tape with a mono house sound mic.
  • jackbwise Saturday, May 07, 2011 7:28 pm According to Levon's book, the instruments and vocals were dubbed over later to make sure it sounded right. Except for Levon's drums and vocals, because he refused to participate. Because of Richard's sad state at the time a lot of his vocals were redone or removed and Robbie's solos were redone. I think Garth was mixed down to let the horns stand out more, and they were brought up as well. Rick's stuff is probably the same, and we know Levon's is. Mr. Scorsese and Mr. Robertson, I have only one thing to say: Liar liar pants on fire
  • 190 Thursday, May 05, 2011 2:20 pm Watching this footage makes you realize what a genius Scorcese is -- he made it look and sound great and exciting. Also it seems that a whole lot of post-concert fixes were done to the sound -- some of the songs sound very different.
  • Chris71 Tuesday, May 03, 2011 11:07 pm With the exception of the drums, nearly the entire concert was overdubbed for the movie and album. Just listen to how different the audio is. They should've left it,but Robbie being Robbie...........Anyway,i'd take THIS over the Last Waltz ANY day.
  • dario1 Tuesday, May 03, 2011 8:17 pm This is great stuff i was there on thanksgiving 1976 with my girl Sue, we have now been married 31 years and love anything to do with the last waltz. best show i ever seen !!
  • Anonymous Tuesday, May 03, 2011 7:29 pm What's with the hard on over Robbie? Not anything in the vids but the comments? Go rip on your old lady or dog or something let us enjoy the whole gig???
  • Anonymous Tuesday, May 03, 2011 6:18 pm Just a few more close-up of Robbie and the film wouldn't be half bad. Geez Levon is singing and all the light operator can do is hold his spot on Robbie. Who is fuckin kiddin who?
  • bettybarncoat Tuesday, May 03, 2011 12:26 pm wow - the things the fans never know if they've NOT been to the live performance, curious as to why it's in B&W? The most burning question is who is the horn player behind Levon? ( lol ) I've always wondered that. The bronze guitar..............gawdy miss lawdy!
  • Anonymous Tuesday, May 03, 2011 9:01 am The Staples singers' version is one of the best concert performances ever...tough to beat.
  • syncapath Tuesday, May 03, 2011 6:59 am We,You ,They Should give any and all monies from these Vids to all the surviving members of the band...except Robbie!!!
  • surfraptor Tuesday, May 03, 2011 6:45 am Awesome! Best band Ever!
  • feverishness Tuesday, May 03, 2011 6:29 am Killer!
  • fergrorke Tuesday, May 03, 2011 4:53 am I think Martin Scorsese had a few more movie cameras at his disposal.
  • jackbwise Monday, May 02, 2011 6:48 pm HOLY CRAP ITS THE ORIGINAL VIDEO OF THE LAST WALTZ UNEDITED
