Concert Summary

If authenticity is what you crave, look no further than the Band -these guys've got the stuff dripping from their scruffy chins thick as tobacco juice. In an era fraught with Victorian dandyism and pharmaceutical space exploration, five ace musicians had the good sense to cover themselves head to toe in Mississippi mud, sprinkle on a little Appalachian dust, and go tearing through the Great American Songbook like a Mack truck chewin' up blacktop. Their very name implies primacy; a sound firmly grounded in the fundamentals; no other qualification necessary.

not 100% sure of this but considering the fact that they were touring with dylan in 1974 and seeing as they played madison square garden jan. 31 with dylan (see related concerts to the right) i believe this was the set the band played on the dylan tour. if i recall correctly dylan and the band played first then the band would play a set then dylan would do a solo set of about three songs then the band would rejoin him. i think this is the bands set though i could check it cuz i actually snuck in a tape recorder for the dylan/band concert and have it on cassette. those damn video recording phones came along to late!! think of all the great freaking shows that could have been recorded!

anyways i do remember the band playing boston garden in the winter one year so i could be wrong. on that night i remember the garden was far from full because someone else was playing THE MUSIC HALL (now the wang) on the same night. can't remember who. let you know if i come up with it.

I still have the ticket stub from this concert. The only recollection I have of it is that it was amazing. Jesus, I wish I could remember more. Was it the drugs? Kids, stay away from drugs, they are super bad, as James Brown said.

another interpretation has it that "Stage Fright" is referring to Van Morrison.

I thought Stage Fright was autobiographical, about Robertson's sudden sickness before a concert in San Francisco in 1969.
