About

The B-52's

Named after the ceiling-high bouffant wigs donned by singers Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson, the Warhol-like B-52's emerged from the small college town of Athens, Georgia in the mid-1970s. From that moment, a kitschy pop group that also included Fred Schneider, Ricky Wilson and Keith Strickland was born. The bands B-movie fashion sense and quirky, off-kilter sound made them an instant party band, producing hits like "Rock Lobster" and "52 Girls" in their early days. The band struck gold with Cosmic Thing, released in '89, giving America a favorite wedding reception hit, "Love Shack." After disappearing for the better part of a decade, in 2008 B-52s released the seventh album, Funplex.
