Concert Summary

One might say that The Average White Band was the British equivalent to the U.S. horn-driven funk band Tower of Power, and in a lot of ways they are. This recording, made two years after AWB had achieved an initial pop success with the infectious dance instrumental "Pick Up The Pieces," shows the band at its creative peak. Most of the material comes from the band's second and third Atlantic Records studio albums, but they do include some…entire summary

My first concert. Pine Knob. Average White Band opened. Followed by BB King with Marshall Tucker as the headliner. Three different types of music, all good.

I've seen these guys over the past 30 years and they still lay it down as good as gets. Funky, polished deep grooves... no one does it any better.

Without a doubt, one of my top five shows in the Vault. Dig it, dig it, dig it!

LISTEN TO DA FUNKY SCOTTS ! These guys FOUND the groove and could hang with the best of the funky bands. Winterland was the place I saw them and danced my ass off. Being a TOP addict , these guys gave one hell of a " soul vaccination " and this is one clean , cookin', show you have here, THANKS Got any more ?

WOW, what a memory!! I was at this absolutely incredible show way back in the summer of '76. Opening acts were Wild Cherry (with their one hit.....Play That Funky Music) and Kool and the Gang (when they were still a funk band). Some of the Spectrum concert ended up on the Person to Person live album (needless to say there were more songs and they played more than 51 minutes). That album also included songs from The Tower Theater (also in Philly and I was at that show too), Pittsburgh and Cleveland. AWB was one of those bands (like Santana) that you simply cannot sit still while they are playing. Funky and soulful, one of my all time favorite bands and most memorable concerts. Thank you for posting this one Wolfgang's but where is the 15 minute, solo jam filled Pick Up the Pieces??

My friend and I hung out with Alan and Onnie at the bar after a gig at the 23 East outside of Philly in the late 90's. They were THE NICEST GUYS, very friendly and down to earth. Of course, their show was great, and in that setting very intimate. Maybe a 100 people attending that night. Now they are back to playing bigger venues and seem to be having more success, splitting the bill with Tower of Power. Great guys, a memorable night and I wish them well.

SHIT-HOT! AWB...I remember the Silverdome...12/75...The Who. The PA system launched a bunch of tunes and AWB was the first batch of tunes to blow the footprints off the roof. Yeah, general admission. $8 a pop!
