  • Anonymous Tuesday, May 22, 2012 10:03 am I love this. These SIX are the greatest band of all time.Yes I love Duane but we must give Dicky his do.I found this out after listening to so much live audio after Duane was gone, during the Chuck and Lamar era. Also the FIVE MAN BAND!
  • philippe Friday, May 18, 2012 3:25 pm I have to go back to this incredible concert once in a while because it's so incredibly fantastic. Mind blowing guitar ! Thanks again!
  • Anonymous Thursday, May 17, 2012 9:40 pm wish the voices were better
  • Anonymous Monday, May 14, 2012 4:05 pm Bill Graham recorded everything that happened on his stages This one came out great / 1970 WOW
  • Anonymous Thursday, May 10, 2012 4:40 am Got to see the ABB 2 weeks before this show@ Dayton,Ohio's "Hara Arena" Duane and Dickey were as one, one would start a solo and the other picked it up. This band totally took me from Grand Funk RR to Southern Rock, Blues and seeing Duane remains one of the highlights of my life.
  • Anonymous Wednesday, May 09, 2012 6:36 pm One of the BEST live bands ever, classic Duane, awesome
  • it's me Saturday, May 05, 2012 8:18 am Thank you Uncle Bill!
  • robertwatson123 Wednesday, April 18, 2012 7:44 am saw this tour at Sunshine In, Asbury Park for free!! Thanks Chicago TA for selling out at Convention Hall that Eve. Duane rolled up the garage doors and invited all on the sidewalk outside in for the show... amazing
  • Revo1117 Tuesday, April 17, 2012 7:27 pm On "Dreams", I can just hear Bill Graham yelling "Where's the fuckin' sound guy!" re: Greg's mic during the first half of the song.
  • Revo1117 Tuesday, April 17, 2012 7:16 pm Long live Skydog!
  • pillarpaul Tuesday, April 17, 2012 2:58 pm I once got kicked out of a Shawn Colvin concert for yelling, "Hey, play Whipping Post" during "Sunny Came Home". A few months later I attended an Allman Bros concert at Red Rocks and yelled "Hey, play Sunny Came Home" during "Whipping Post". I did not get kicked out or even looked at funny. GREAT concert footage!
  • Sungold Tuesday, April 17, 2012 12:43 am I think that this is the first time I have seen concert footage with Duane. It's amazing to see & hear the legend in action. Thanks, WV!
  • Kynyrd Monday, April 16, 2012 6:51 pm Historic footage.Looks like Dickey was playing a twin reverb, killer clean sound
  • dark-star Monday, April 16, 2012 6:40 pm I am strangely compelled to yell the name of this song at any musical performance I attend.
  • drrocker Monday, April 16, 2012 3:59 pm Good God Almighty! It doesn't get any better than this. Betts' tone was thin but Duane's was heaven. I bet Betts switched to the LP shortly thereafter.
  • Anonymous Monday, April 16, 2012 8:33 am Any video of Duane is priceless, of course. But you can tell that the filmer wasn't a guitar player - s/he focused on Dicky during Duane's awesome slide solo. I was hoping to steal a lick or two!
  • Chief J. Strongbow Monday, April 16, 2012 7:31 am At this point they were the greatest (mostly) white blues band on the planet, maybe ever. You can just watch these 11 delightful minutes and understand exactly where the Allman Brothers legend started. Just stonkin' good stuff. They don't make 'em like that anymore...Duane & Berry RIP.
  • Dave43 Monday, April 16, 2012 5:36 am I started a blog on Duane Allman. It's a fictional diary of Duane's experience as leader of the Allman Brothers Band starting March 23, 1969, 43 years to the day when Duane first assembled the band. Any help/comments you want to offer I'd appreciate. I’ve tried to be accurate with events, dates, times, setlists, etc. http://duaneallmanjournal.blogspot.com/
  • Skydog Lives Friday, April 13, 2012 6:59 pm 41 years since I saw them in Philly and I still get those chills up my spine when Duane takes off on the slide. A brilliant brilliant musician.
  • nickyboy109 Monday, March 26, 2012 7:36 pm INCREDIBLE!
  • TheJimbo Sunday, March 25, 2012 9:48 pm Sigh!
  • Anonymous Sunday, March 04, 2012 12:06 am Worst editing job ever but mega thanks WGV for incredibly historical footage of the gigs at the Fillmore. The first ABB gig I saw was Duane's next to last show. God, all these kids wanted to do was play... play play play.
  • Billiam Thursday, November 17, 2011 6:14 pm I was in a lucky group of a few thousand who saw the Allman's in their first West Coast appearance, which was at Fillmore West, opening for BB King and Buddy Guy. That would be January 1970. They were great of course, and we were amazed by them having 2 guitar players that had chops. For that era, I only know of Fleetwood Mac (Green and Kirwan) who had that. Duane Allman's sense of musical lyricism and timing reminds me of Peter Green's. Just superb.
  • Groovy Granny Tuesday, November 15, 2011 11:05 am Thank YOU WGV!! I have added this site to my granddaughters homework!! 1/2 (at least) per day to hear and see the wonderful bands that I grew up listening to. I call it music appreciation and history. :) This site is a GODSEND... thank you :)
  • Groovy Granny Tuesday, November 15, 2011 10:58 am What happened to Greggs microphone? It's painful to watch this and barely hear Gregg
  • chas757 Tuesday, November 01, 2011 10:52 pm Thanks for what you do and what you share with us. This site is a Godsend. Can't tell you how much enjoyment you've brought to me through these archived video performances. Wolfgangs' vault is priceless. You're the best! What you provide is not unappreciated. Please keep up the good work that you do. Charlie Hoffman- Boise, Idaho 11-1-11
  • Anonymous Monday, October 31, 2011 8:53 am It was 40 years ago last Saturday that Duane died. I saw him with the ABB 5 weeks before he passed. Still the best concert I've ever seen.
  • equus dementia Thursday, October 27, 2011 11:04 am my story is somewhat of a sad one! i was at a december 1970 show, before i knew who the bros' WERE!! -unfortunately, i was DEAD DRUNK at the time!! i had to be carried out of there, terribly embarrassing as well as stupid, because duane didn't live much longer!! all i remember in my drunken haze was there was some INCREDIBLE music going on!!...-chalk it up in the realm of human stupidity!!!! -what a GREAT venue for shows R.I.P. and YES!! i HATE stadiums too!! they SUCK ASS as a music venue!! -i would LOVE to get SOME kind of rec. of the show i was at!!
  • Anonymous Thursday, October 27, 2011 6:14 am U Dude: That's some tight vintage @!#$%...!
  • philippe Wednesday, October 26, 2011 1:48 pm Duane brings tears to my eyes! What a loss!
  • Anonymous Tuesday, October 25, 2011 3:33 pm Couldn't think of buying this. It's a real shame Gregg's vocals are buried in the mix. I saw these dudes on the final weekend of the Fillmore East, with J. Giles opening. It was what I hope heaven sounds like.
  • Peter Van Kan Tuesday, October 25, 2011 5:55 am Was the world's best band and, amazingly after over 40 years, still is. The spirit of Duane lives on.
  • Self Anointed Musicologist Sunday, September 04, 2011 10:21 pm Self Anointed Musicologist Awesome
  • AwMan Sunday, August 28, 2011 4:32 am I never got to see Duane play. I missed him by 2 months. My first time I got to see and hear the greatest rock and roll band in the land was December 31, 1971, New Years Eve at a Warehouse in New Orleans, just 2 months after the passing of not only the greatest slide guitar player, but the best darn guitar player period! To think I was only 16 and was just getting familiar with Live at the Fillmore East. When I heard they were coming to New Orleans I was not going to miss them this time. After I was turned into a peach head I was upset to put it mildly to find out how many times they were in New Orleans. Not only at the Warehouse but playing free gigs out at Audubon Park in New Orleans for free after they had played a 4 1/2 hour show at the Warehouse. I had so many chances to see them. I guess my only excuse was my age,...nah bad excuse. lol. But it still haunts me to this day, that I missed King Duane, but I have made up for it over the years the best I can. I think seeing them between 30 and 40 times helps ease the pain. Mike Bondio
  • stratcat74 Wednesday, August 24, 2011 5:35 pm After reading all the comments I would like to tell everyone that this video was shot along with several other bands to do a program for a New York station. I know Elvin Bishop was one of them. But, because the audio didn't come out right on the first song and a half, They dropped this one of the Allman Brothers. It surfaced only a few years ago. I traded with a taper for a VHS of this concert. The quality was not as good as this. Thank you WV!
  • Anonymous Sunday, August 21, 2011 6:24 pm Duane was only 24 when he left us. Wow...what a talent.
  • glennc Sunday, August 21, 2011 1:37 pm absolutely the best ever
  • renegage313 Monday, August 08, 2011 4:53 am ...so sweeet...good tunage never gets old...thanks guys !!
  • elwood66 Saturday, July 30, 2011 3:12 pm Yes! Wherever people find these old pearls from - I don't care, just appreciate it very much. One of the best bands ever, too bad Duane had to go to early...
  • Anonymous Monday, July 18, 2011 6:37 am Hey ej. This is the first time I've seen a clean copy of this video. 1. can you post the rest? 2. Is it available for purchase anywhere? 2. Who owns the video? Thanks for posting it.
  • Anonymous Thursday, July 14, 2011 8:27 pm camote62@hotmail....what a concert.!!...pure classic..what else can i say....rock will never be the same...!!
  • Anonymous Sunday, July 03, 2011 3:41 pm saw them for the 1st time Spring 72 @ Gaelic Park, The Bronx NY (Garcia&Weir..encore "Mtn Jam". Then a year later @ MSG, NY
  • FranDance Sunday, July 03, 2011 8:20 am Incredible performance. Wonderful to see Duane, Berry and Dicky, all so tight and together. It's fantastic that Jaimoe, Butch and Gregg are still making incredible music 40+ years later! See them live again.
  • Anonymous Sunday, July 03, 2011 5:37 am fantastic -- never saw them live but live at fillmore and eat a peach remain among my favourite live albums...what a great band - are there any other examples where two lead guitarists worked so well together ? (other than Spinal Tap of course :-)
  • Anonymous Tuesday, June 28, 2011 6:14 am Great to see Duane, on this great track
  • Peter Van Kan Friday, June 24, 2011 10:38 am The real thing. It's 40 years later and it's never been matched. RIP Duane.
  • sekander2 Monday, June 20, 2011 8:18 am Got to see Duane 2 times in 1971. First time was at the fabled Whiskey A Go Go on Sunset Strip in LA. We were right up on the dance floor directly below Duane as he did his slide magic on Dreams. Un fricking real. Second time was at UCSB at the end of the their West Coast tour in October of 71. One of the best shows ever. As we drove back to LA that night, little could we know that 3 weeks later Duane would be gone. Sadly, to this day, still no audio or video has emerged from that last tour.
  • TURBO88 Monday, June 20, 2011 5:46 am To this day the ABB give you 100% in concert. This band should be on anyones "bucket list"
  • deepbali1218 Thursday, June 16, 2011 6:23 pm wow..coool....
  • anarchitek Tuesday, June 07, 2011 10:41 am I saw the Brothers in Houston, September 26, 1971, the middle of a three-act bill that opened with home-town favorites, ZZ Top. A smooth-shaven Steve Gibbons pulled out all the stops, one blistering run after another erupting from his guitar. Then the Brothers took the stage and played every song off the first two albums, before leaving. Steve Miller, the headline act, was in the unenviable position of having to follow two hot acts, but he did a fine job, the band tight behind him. It was a magical night, and at the end, Steve G and Duane joined Stevie Guitar Miller, for a jam that lasted until they turned on the lights and kicked us all out! What a show, one of the all-time classics.
  • docsider Tuesday, June 07, 2011 5:35 am Right on Skydog. More isolation of Duane's technique would have been nice, but anything is better than nothing. Greatest guitarist ever.
  • krup Tuesday, May 31, 2011 7:39 pm Hey Ypsi Dan ...I remember reading that Rolling Stone article when it came out. Interesting insights.....
  • troutonahook Monday, May 30, 2011 10:32 pm now if they would only post the Johnny winter sets
  • troutonahook Monday, May 30, 2011 10:31 pm one of the best concert halls ever
  • philippe Monday, May 30, 2011 3:17 pm Amazing music, amazing concert, amazing band, great venue (I hate stadiums) and yes, if you have 'In Memory of Elizabeth Reed' please...Thanks for this incredible document!
  • Skydog Lives Monday, May 30, 2011 2:05 pm This is an absolute f***ing goldmine. There is not much decent video that I've seen of the ABB w/ Duane. If the vault has anymore of this please put them on priority for release. This time period with band, in my humble opinion, is an absolute treasure in American music.
  • Jania Monday, May 30, 2011 12:56 pm About "Whipping Post:" An absolutely peak performance, more concise than the longer version on "Live at the Fillmore East" but thrilling nonetheless. Excellent audio. While it would have been nice to have the camera focused more on the fingers than the faces, there is enough detail to give the viewer a good idea of the interplay between Duane and Dickey, something I've been wondering about for years of listening to many versions of this song.
  • sfojws Monday, May 30, 2011 9:40 am This is one of those moments in the history of rock music that I am happy to know was recorded for posterity. I see that others share the same exasperation that I had when, during the instrumental break (one of my all-time favorite ethereal slide guitar runs), there was almost no footage of Duane's fretboard work. The close-ups of the faces, and the full body shots of Berry and Dickey made the inability to see Duane playing all the more frustrating. In any event, I'm still glad to be able to hear and see this.
  • Nippy17 Monday, May 30, 2011 8:40 am I was at this concert , after 40 yrs it is still one of the best shows I ever attended, with J. Giles Band and Albert King. What a great venue to see a show so much different than a large arena or outside stadium. Who says you can never go back... Thanks to Stumble upon .com for finding the Vault!
  • dcdefend Monday, May 30, 2011 8:35 am Wish the camera had been on Duane's and Dickey's guitars. Something's better than nothing.
  • Anonymous Monday, May 30, 2011 8:25 am Too bad the cameraman was so intent on faces. Can't imagine why anyone would want to watch one of the greats actually play their instrument!! Arrrgh ...
  • fireblossom Monday, May 30, 2011 8:09 am I got my first FM radio for Christmas back in 1969 or so. I took it to my room and set it up on the table next to my bed. Switching it on I swept the dial until I landed on this song off of The Allman Brothers Band. I closed my eyes drifted off and was never quite the same.
  • Anonymous Monday, May 30, 2011 7:23 am I've been a fan since 1972 when I was only 14. My older sister had their music playing all the time guess that's where it all started for me. I've seen them probably 30 times since my 1st show at Jones Beach including 5x in a row this Beacon run in NYC. They were/are such a unique talent. So much musicianship it's scary. And they invented a whole new way of playing rock/blues/jazz all at once. Here it is 2011 and the they are still performing 42years later. Just incredible.....
  • Ypsi Dan Monday, May 30, 2011 7:13 am I saw them many times around 70, 71. A lifelong fan, but to be honest, sometimes they were all half gassed on coke and booze in the months before Duane and Barry died. Not always this tight. For an eye-opening account on their life-style, see the Rolling Stone article about their life on the road, written just shortly before Duane's death.
  • Dave43 Monday, May 30, 2011 5:53 am What a band. What a sound. Question to Anonymous: I'm always looking to fill in the blanks on Duane for a writing project (I write for an upstate NY paper). Any chance of seeing the article your brother wrote, or telling us more about your day with them? Dave (davidsinger43@gmail.com)
  • MCDSPLACE Monday, May 30, 2011 5:27 am To SaltyDawg77, It ain't brother. It's just how some of the older stuff tends to not be as smooth when it's "digitized"! I don't like it but you can view it with higher resolution adjustments. Contact WV they're cool about all the tech stuff. Enjoy!
  • MCDSPLACE Monday, May 30, 2011 5:20 am Man, I dig all the history I'm reading! I saw these guys here in Macon in 68 at Central City Park; I had never seen, or heard, such long haired music playing in my life! I met my role models. That was a memorable afternoon. If any of you get a chance, search out a tape of these cats @ New Orleans on 12/30/70 and listen to Whipping Post! The best version ever! This is a blast for an old fart like me!
  • MCDSPLACE Monday, May 30, 2011 5:11 am I was wondering where it was. I love the hell out of this, mistakes & all! I remember how po'd I was the first time I saw it back around 88. I love Betts' playing, but the cameraman didn't realize Duane was working his magic while he filmed Dickey! But who cares? Thanks Wolfman for more of the best damn music ever made! RMcDinGa
  • QuebecKid Thursday, May 26, 2011 8:06 pm Amazing to finally be seeeing this after so many years - wore out three copies of "Live at the Fillmore" - still get chills when hearing Duane's Joy to the World finale to "You Don't Love Me", one of the great live tracks of all time. Great to finally be able to put some real pictures to this incredible band's music! More please!!
  • Anonymous Tuesday, May 24, 2011 9:48 pm Whipping Post's ending is a masterpiece in itself.
  • Anonymous Monday, May 23, 2011 12:59 pm This is amazing. I think it must have been just the week before this gig they did a day at Atlantic City Steel Pier. My brother and I spent the whole day watching and eventually hanging out with them. Steel pier had this funky smallish domed ballroom all the way in back next to where the horse dove into a pool. They would make the band play several short sets over the course of the day so they were stuck hanging around playing pinball and stuff. My brother was the editor for a small community college so he figures what the heck. We wait until Berry Oakley finishes a game of pinball and approach him about interviewing the band for the college paper. Berry was such a sweetheart. He immediately said yes and went to set it up. We ended up back in the dressing room with Duane and Butch primarily as the others drifted in and out. Butch had his face buried in a sci fi paperback. Duane was on fire. Couldn't shut him up. Just going on about what an amazing band he had and how come people didn't seem to know about them and just being frustrated at having to play this absurd venue. The two first albums were out and we had been all over them so we were telling them about how much we and our friends dug the music. I had been furiously trying to copy Duanes slide style but I didn't mention that. I mean I was 16 ! What a day !
  • Anonymous Sunday, May 22, 2011 7:27 pm For two years, the Greatest Rock and Roll band in the world! RIP Duane and Berry/ thanks WV!
  • whippingpostboy Sunday, May 22, 2011 10:31 am Can't believe how young dicky is!
  • whippingpostboy Sunday, May 22, 2011 10:30 am they talk about hendrix,I'll take Duane over jimi anytime.
  • catzilla Saturday, May 21, 2011 1:32 am I think it's Thom Doucette on harmonica (hope I spelled it right. WV THANK YOU so much! this is the most clear video I've seen of the incomparable Allmans. You are much appreciated!
  • Anonymous Wednesday, May 18, 2011 10:06 pm Fantastic Opening Tune...but who was the guy on harmonica? PS greatfilmiing for the time, but badly balanced and the instruments don't even seem to be reecorded separately. - Bernd
  • Skydogfan Tuesday, May 17, 2011 5:15 pm Simply the best.
  • jess arguillas Tuesday, May 17, 2011 1:15 am one of the best bands ever to grace the planet.! ;-)
  • Skydogfan Monday, May 16, 2011 7:41 pm What a brilliant band and one of their most moving songs. Too bad the sound isn't all that great in the beginning.
  • Anonymous Sunday, May 15, 2011 2:23 pm A pox on the cameraman .. one of my big frustrations is cameramen not showing the soloist in action, ie Duane rippin' .. oh well. It is amazing footage nonetheless. More please
  • joeyaudio Saturday, May 14, 2011 7:03 pm It's a joke they can't get the damn rights squared so the real fans can see this, once and for all! It's only been 40 frickin' years jerks, release this now. This music belongs to their fans, not the lawyers.
  • acmebrew Friday, May 13, 2011 11:07 am This guy wasn't quite 25 years old when he died. Yet he's still one of the all time greats.... You can't help but think what could have been. I've played the Allman Bros stuff I have hundreds (at least) of times, and I'm not exactly getting tired of it. RIP Duane, we still miss you.
  • Anonymous Friday, May 13, 2011 6:11 am Are you kidding me. this is a freakin' awesome video by a freakin' awesome band. Really you are worried about the camera work. Be thankful we have this thanks Wolfgang
  • Reverend C.E. Thursday, May 12, 2011 9:41 pm Ain't it amazin' what a pile of amps, a love of the blues and an abundance of cocaine, pot and mushrooms could do? I grew up on these guys, Duane is one of the reasons I set out to learn guitar forty some-odd years ago.... I'll never be that good.
  • Tech Support Thursday, May 12, 2011 9:07 am @ SaltyDawg77 If you're having issues playing the video proper, click the Contact Us link in the footer and we'll help you troubleshoot the problem.
  • SaltyDawg77 Wednesday, May 11, 2011 10:37 pm Will someone explain why this "video" is a mishmash of still shots with a few actual video segments?
  • xtreamdream Monday, May 09, 2011 4:14 pm Grew up in Atlanta and saw them playing a free concert in Pedmont Parkback around 69 or 70. They were very tight!
  • Chris71 Monday, May 09, 2011 2:08 pm Yeah, get a close up on the guitarists face as he's playing a solo. Why would we wanna see his fingers and the guitar?
  • Anonymous Friday, May 06, 2011 7:09 am A rare opportunity to hear Duane re-tuning his own guitar after a slide solo. Puts us all on the same level for only a moment. This was back before he probably had a "guitar tech" to give him another guitar to play. Great stuff. Memories of those days....
  • Anonymous Wednesday, May 04, 2011 5:49 pm There must be a complete video of this show somewhere!
  • Was There Tuesday, May 03, 2011 12:35 pm Why isn't "Elizabeth Reed" included here? What's the point of leaving it out?
  • ossobucco Monday, May 02, 2011 6:06 pm Thats the real deal!!!
  • nedhead Saturday, April 30, 2011 4:04 pm this is freakin awesome ... BUT its frustrating that the editing is so poor: e.g. Duane laying down killer solo (in Don't Keep Me Wonderin) while we watch Dickey play rhythm. oh, well, the few glimpses of Duane are more than i've ever had before, so i'm still lovin this! thanks, again WV
  • MCDSPLACE Friday, April 29, 2011 8:46 pm I know of you probably remember how each song on each sounded, timing & all; Watching this reminds me of why my old tape don't play no more!! I wore this gig out! Thanks! to WV for giving us a real happening experience, even if it speaks of your decrepid state!
  • MCDSPLACE Friday, April 29, 2011 8:33 pm Where's Liz Reed? I love this!!
  • ziegfeldman Friday, April 29, 2011 5:08 pm I was there when the Who did "Tommy," saw Tull on their first American tour, and think about Laura Nyro, Dec. 1970 every day. This is amazing. Can't wait to see Alvin and Ten Years After.
  • Anonymous Friday, April 29, 2011 3:36 pm Thanks for the flashback of some incredible times!
  • Anonymous Friday, April 29, 2011 2:17 pm Yes, kiddies, this is how it's done.
  • drumday Friday, April 29, 2011 1:50 pm Eureka! It's there. Believe y'all have worked your magic. Can't wait to get out of the cube farm to crank it at home! Thanks for the quick fix!
  • pablocav Friday, April 29, 2011 1:12 pm So funny that someone mentioned the PBS footage. For years I've been saying that WNET out of Newark, back in the day would broadcast a Friday or Saturday night gig from the Fillmore East. Glad it wasn't some flashback or mental laspe I had.. ;-)
