Concert Summary

Few bands could have recovered from such tragic personnel losses as did The Allman Brothers Band in 1973. After the death of Duane Allman in 1971 and Berry Oakley the following year, few would have thought The Allman Brothers Band could carry on. One key to the group's remarkably successful recuperation was their recognition of the futility of trying to replace such distinctive musicians. Rather…entire summary

Very good show from a band that was always at their best live. Chuck Leavell is an outstnding piano player and added a great liveliness to the band's sound. I saw this tour in Denver and it was an excellent show as well. Dickie Betts rose to the occasion, playing his solos as well as Duane's and kickin' butt on all of them.

I ran into a couple of friends, who had been at the show at Oakland the night before, they said that Bill Graham was having the ABB play again that night at Winterland, and they were going!!! Well, needless to say, I climbed into the back of their 240-Z, and we flew up to the city. We walked up to the entrance, just as they opened the doors, payed $5.00 and walked in..... there wasn't 10 people inside....6 plus hours later, it was standing room only....truely an almost religous experience. To this day, every time I hear "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed", I flash back to this show, and smile......

The segway into Amazing Grace into Les Bres is about as good as it ever gets in music. Dickey was just amazing in those days. I must have seen 4 or 5 shows of this era and this is about the best. I remember taping this show on to reel to reel from WMMR in Philadelphia. I later transfered that tape to CD. It is just wonderful to hear Dickey and the crowd go nuts when the lights hit the mirror ball during Amazing Grace! You had to be there. Chilling, just spine chilling......
