Concert Summary

Few bands could have recovered from such tragic personnel losses, as did the Allman Brothers Band. After the death of Duane Allman in 1971 and Berry Oakley the following year, few would have thought the Allman Brothers Band would carry on or could ever again be relevant. However, the Allman Brothers Band was a true brotherhood that went beyond the founding members' musical vision into a spiritual journey with their listeners. Not unlike their friends, the Grateful Dead, the Brothers were on a musical mission that their fan base embraced and inherently understood. The death of founding…entire summary

i was also at this show , it was my very first concert , what a way to start . the crazy thing tho was this guy playing piano behind gregg with no intro by name , tho he had long dark hair and a beard ....hmm (chuck leavell ) stage line-up was gregg lft, dickey mdl, berry rt,jaimoe and butch in back . flo and eddie opened , the kenny loggins band feat. jim messina ( not just loggins and messina yet ) then the ABB . haven`t heard this stuff since 8-6-72 ! wow what a blast . i went out and bought a guitar the very next day and have been playing ever since . thanx duane !!! i`ve seen every ABB concert in los angeles and surrounding area ever since... i`ve got quite a tix stubb collection . rip duane and berry, wherever someone`s playin` the blues you`ll be there.

man ive never heard the 5pc lineup before
still heavyweight and still wayyy interesting
bo stepping up to fill an unfillable void
    i really dig the effect

and really dig gregg's added emphasis on hammond

i wonder how the stage set up was in my mind
berry went stage center between the two kits
w/ ga still stageleft and dickey moving to stage right

jeez hearing this i dont think they even need to add anybody
'course no jessica part by leavell then which is untinkable

but the 5 remaining were so effing good they coulda gone on
    as is imo

what an amazing group that skydog cat assembled ha
legendary dont even come close to adequate

This was an amazing and emotional concert - we had complementary tix from a radio station - box seats close to the stage - Loggins & Messina opened. When Johnny Winter came out we all just about lost it. I recorded the whole show on w/ a cassette recorder in my pocket. Still have the tape, if anyone wants to trade music, I'd love it! Listen and enjoy - doesn't get any better than these guys. RIP Duane and Berry.

TWO COOL JOHNNY WINTER WITH THE ALLMAN BROTHERS. IN 1972 MUCH TALK OF JOHNNY WINTER JOINING THE ALLMAN BROTHERS WERE A POSSIBILITY. WOULD OF BEEN A GREAT MOVE FOR JOHNNY WINTER. TO BAD HE HAD HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT OF STEVE PAUL AND TEDDY SLATUS. THEY ALSO KEPT HIM OUT OF THE WOODSTOCK MOVIE. TO BAD JOHNNY`S CAREER WOULD OF BEEN MORE INTERESTING AND MORE ADVERSE. HE IS AMAZING AND LOVED BY HIS FANS. KEEP ROCKIN JOHNNY. A LIVING LEGEND. JOHNNY PLAYED ON GREG ALLMANS SOLO VERSION OR DEMO OF A BROTHERS AND SISTERS SONG THAT IS BETTER THEN THE ALBUM VERSION. LOOK FOR IT THE NAME ESCAPES ME. JOHNNY WOULD OF FIT IN NICELY WITH THE ALLMANS WITH HIS GREAT SLIDE PLAYING. THE ONE MAN WHO COULD PLAY SLIDE IN THAT BAND AT THAT TIME. NO ONE COULD REPLACE DUANE, BUT JOHNNY WOULD OF BEEN INTERESTING. CHECK OUT THAT TRACK ON GREGS ALBUM, JOHNNY`S PLAYING AMAZING SLIDE. TO BAD IT DID NOT HAPPEN. THE ROCK GODS WERE NOT LINED UP RIGHT. OH YEAH THE SONG IS CALLED 'WASTED WORDS" johnny`s slide work is killer on it. probaley a fast run threw, but Johnny learned the song. So this makes me believe Johnny may of been thought to be on Brothers and sisters. Johnny probaly wanted to restart his own career with Still Alive and Well. If anyone knows of more demos or storys of Johnny winter and the Allman brothers please share them. Also Johnny jammed on Mountain jam with the Allams at Atlanta Pop Fest. But no photos of film has surfaced. Johnny and Duane on the same stage. Thats wild. Has anyone seen a photo. Was that jam filmed?????? Thank You Jimmy Warf Rat Ostiller

My best friend and I {we are the two guys you see in the PBS movie of the Clapton Crossroads concert in Dallas, TX, right after he talks about the award he got of the book of TX. Up in stands. Yep, we're immortal], were asking each other what music we would take into isolation if we had only one group to choose .Allman Bros. I offered a guy 20 bucks for his copy of Live at the Fillmore, when it first cam out, since I lived in a very small, rural town, with no access to a music store. He told me to forget it, couldn't let it go. Smart guy! The Allmans were, and still are, masters of their art. Just wish I could have seen them when they were all together.
