Concert Summary

This is the third and final set of this long New Year's Eve night, and by this point, many of the musicians need a well deserved break, but Boz Scaggs, Betts, Leavell, Kreutzmann and a few others are still ready to go. They invite another respected guitarist, Les Dudeck, out on stage and this smaller ensemble delivers a highly charged blues set, again with Scaggs handling the vocal duties. They wind their way through a few more improvisational blues jams, ending with the hottest blues jam of this set.

Yes this show ended at three am. Greg left the show just after Midnight. Some chick jumped up on stage and knocked over his beer. During the midnight celebration they had this hour glass thing with father time in it come from the back of the palace to the front. It had these Styrofoam balls in it and when they lifted it to let father time out the balls fell out right in front of the stage. Dumb asses kept throwing them at the band when they came back out. So Greg was already pissed off. Dicky played about three songs facing his amp so you could not see him. But besides that BS it was a great night. Marshall Tucker was great. Fantastic version of 24 hours at a time and Everyday I sing the Blues. Jerry and Bill where great on Mountain Jam. Boz and Les played great and Dickey was in rare form that night. A great show and great memories. Oh the Acid was pretty good to. lol

The full concert was simul-cast on KSAN. My (future) wife and I joined about 40 others at a "party house" in Menlo Park and danced all night long! One of those amazing experiences that you hold forever etched in detail. It's great to re-live the memories!

I've had the soundboard bootleg of this show for years, it's one of the best of the bands early 70's sets. It should have been commercially released, flaws and all.
