Concert Summary

This is the third and final set of this long New Year's Eve night, and by this point, many of the musicians need a well deserved break, but Boz Scaggs, Betts, Leavell, Kreutzmann and a few others are still ready to go. They invite another respected guitarist, Les Dudeck, out on stage and this smaller ensemble delivers a highly charged blues set, again with Scaggs handling the vocal duties. They wind their way through a few more improvisational blues jams, ending with the hottest blues jam of this set.

I've had the soundboard bootleg of this show for years, it's one of the best of the bands early 70's sets. It should have been commercially released, flaws and all.

Donovan - Mountain Jam - hardly surprising as it's based on Donovan's song 'There Is A Mountain'.Happy Xmas to all

Is that a bit of Donovan I hear at the beginning of the Mountain jam?

This entire show send chills down my spine. If I could die and go to heven, would be Dec 31 1973 at the Cow Palace.

You gotta love Jerry and Bill jammin with the ABB!

The blues jam sounds like it has a little Freddie Kings Hideway in it.

Great Show. It would have been interesting to see how the Leavell-era Allman Brothers would have progressed. Seems like they lost their fire after he left, but they would find it again when Warren Haynes joined the band. I love my ABB and can never get enough.

I was at this concert. Charlie Daniels Band, then Marshal Tucker Band, then the Allman Brothers (and guests). I think it ended at about 3AM or so.
