Concert Summary

Their appearance at the 1969 Woodstock Festival catapulted Ten Years After into the realm of superstardom. The subsequent release of "I'm Going Home" in the Woodstock movie and on the soundtrack album inspired countless guitar players and became a staple of FM radio throughout the next decade. The band continued releasing acclaimed albums in the early 1970s, including the 1971 release, A Space In Time and Rock And Roll Music To The World the following year. By this point, Lee was looking to expand his musical horizons and began working outside the band, releasing the more…entire summary

I was also at this event. I remember fighting outside with a big crowd to get one of those posters. years later i ruined it. still kicking myself over that one. Sammy headlined and brought Neil Schon out for Rock Candy, and then Eddie Money for some bluesy jamming. Eddie Money gave me the first hit off of a Heineken after the show ended.

if you havent heard the recent work by Alvin, suggest you pick up Alvin Lee in Tennessee. tremendous recording

I was at this show. I was so psyched to see Alvin Lee after having seen the movie Woodstock when it came out. I was a big Sammy fan from the first time I saw him with Montrose (also at Winterland). Man, it's nice to see someone mention The Hoo Doo Rhythm Devils. They had a couple cool songs (e.g., Crazy About The Ladies) and a rocking live show. corry is right, it was the KSJO 10th anniversary show. To go along with their 92.3 location on the dial, tickets to this concert cost $3.92. I still have the handbill from that show.

saw them at hammersmith odeon on both their tours and they were amazing both times, the first show there the lights went up but nobody would leave, came back on played another song the lights go on again everybody just stands there, this was repeated 6 times until the dreaded hammersmith curfew kicked in, a really underated band, 2 albums and gone, shame

The bill for Winterland 5/19/78 was Sammy Hagar/Ten Years Later/Hoodoo Rhythm Devils/Eddie Money. It was the KSJO 10th Anniversary Party. KSJO was the San Jose fm rock station, fun but more hard rocking than San Francisco's KSAN. Sammy Hagar was a rising star in the Bay Area (and probably everywhere) and no doubt handled the competition fine. This appears to have been Hagar's first BGP Headline show in San Francisco (he had headlined in smaller venues like Stockton and Santa Cruz). At the time, Eddie Money was an obscure East Bay club act. Hoodoo Rhythm Devils, longtime local favorites, were in fact a terrific act--any chance their set survives in the vaults?

I caught Ten Years Later on this tour at the Forum in Los Angeles that same month. Can't imagine them being anyone's opening act, but shows in those days typically featured at least two monster acts. Has there ever been another guitarist as ferocious as Alvin Lee? It's too bad that he hasn't always been able to work and play well with others (as a person, of course, not as a musician!) Thanks for the upload of this killer show. Why this guy doesn't get his just accord is astounding to me. The Rock Hall of Fame includes The Jackson Five, The Pretenders, Blondie...but no Jethro Tull, Outlaws, Ten Years After...go figger. "Politically correct" politics is a real fantasy land of bullshit, isn't it??!!!
