Concert Summary

This date would mark the band's first performance at the Fillmore Auditorium, recorded during Ten Years After's first American tour, shortly after the release of their second album, Undead. At this early stage, their jazz influences were far more prevalent than in later years; the band, moreover, has a marked tendency towards arrangements in the bebop tradition.

Opening this night with a lengthy take on Sonny Boy Williamson's "Help Me," they demonstrate their expertise at building tension, beginning…entire summary

I agree flustercluck...Alvin was way ahead of his contemporaries at the time...who will remain nameless. Yes, he does seem to have a bit of the"full-of-himself" curse at times...oh well! I do think he has held himself back over the years...basically limited his talent in my opinion...none-the-less, you gotta admire his integrity!

TO the Anonymous who thinks of Alvin Lee as merely "a pretty good guitar player", is like saying Woods is a "pretty good" golfer or Ali was an 'ok' boxer, that Dimaggios streak was not bad, etc etc ,dude if we could play like that we would deserve to blow our own horn whenever and wherever we wanted. His talent was staggering and extraordinary, I saw him laly on bills with ZZ Top and Lynryd Skynyrd and none of these other amazing acts really approached what he was capable of ,and not to forget his insane backing band, watch any old video of Leo Lyons with his bass and tell me you can tell the difference between whether he was playing it or having sex with the thing, he was a fur-eak. Rick Lees drum solo on the TYA Recorded Live in Europe song called Hobbit is as good as any other drum solo I've ever heard on any rock album, he was another virtuoso.

Alvin is a pretty good guitar player. But, man, doe he ever think exceptionally highly of himself. LOL. A little ego is good, but hell, man...

I also remember them at the Fillmore East in 68 soon after the Chicago Democratic convention. They were the middle act preceded by Procol Harum and followed by Country Joe and the Fish.
